We were lucky to catch up with Seth Wagner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Seth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
While servicing commercial and residential properties you are constantly presented with the decision to go above and beyond what the client expects out of a pressure washing service. For example cleaning a small area they did not specify, assisting with moving furniture or plants off and back, and setting expectations to ensure all their needs are met. I built this company with a few simple rules of timeliness, communication and professionalism while on the job site. Updating the client on arrival times and departure times. Showing up in a clean work uniform and work truck goes a long way for the surrounding neighbors or businesses.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
At the age of fifteen I wanted to start a pressure washing business to buy a car and start a college fund. From my mom driving me around in a Toyota Camry with all of my equipment hanging out the truck to door knocking on weekends, I was able to generate a clientele base over a few years. While upgrading my equipment and services along the way I learned valuable lessons about working with all types of business owners and homeowners. Door knocking as a freshman in high school to hear 99 “no’s” and finally getting one “yes” molded my confidence and self belief. Forgoing some fun weekends with friends to work on my business was tough to understand at the time however well worth it later. After selling the business in college and spending 6 years learning corporate America and how larger organizations grew and operated I felt the calling to start my own exterior building services company with the intent on growing it the right way.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The last four years I was in the commercial insurance industry with a great mentor and company. I was doing the very thing everyone advised me to do because it was a safe path with high potential. I would show up to my job with the full intention this would be my career. As each sale and new client came on to my book of business I did not feel the reward I was seeking. Selling a non-tangible product sometimes at a high premium because that was simply “the market” at the time was not what I intended. After marry the love of my life and discussing the desire I had in my heart to start a business where I could provide a service people were excited about receiving and seeing a tangible result I took a leap of faith and created Wolf Pressure Washing.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth. Most people own a home or business and being located in Florida, pressure washing is a yearly maintenance item. Good people like to work with good people so being upfront and honest about how I come to pricing or simply answering the phone when a client calls encourages them to refer my business to others.
