Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Seth Hays. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Seth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
In late 2020, I directed a music video for one of my best friends, who happens to be one of the most talented creatives I have the privilege of knowing, Connor McCullum (Oxford Con). It was my first opportunity directing a form of visual art. Simultaneously, it was the first time doing what I felt I was put on Earth to do. We were able to give that story life with a small team of our friends, all talented musicians, creatives, makeup artists, etc. in their own right which made that project all the more meaningful. That process was the most complete I’ve felt as a storyteller, and that day is one I hold very dear to me throughout all my creative endeavors.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a passionate, vision-driven photographer/creative director who seeks to work with other artists and creatives to tell impactful visual stories. I strive for my work to feel ethereal and dreamlike, finding most of my inspiration in films or cinematic visuals that I draw an emotional connection to. It is the vision that I take the most pride in — bringing the cinema in my head to life. The way I see the world around me, the way I feel every small moment, it all connects to what I create, my work is a direct extension of myself.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The people I am afforded the chance to meet and work with, the genuine connections shared in the telling of a story.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
It’s a sentiment that has been echoed over and over again but, pay your artists, no matter the medium; photography, painting, wood working, etc. It affords creatives the resources to expand their ideas, which leads to the overall growth in their medium and expand their platform/brand visibility to more potential clients.
