We recently connected with Seth Barmash and have shared our conversation below.
Seth, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Most talent is natural but can be nurtured. When it comes to creative and performing arts, most skills can’t be taught but better yet coached. Coaching comes in easy-to-digest forms on all social media in this tech-based era. For those a little older we had to learn for ourselves by trying. The only obstacle in the way of learning was procuring opportunities to exploit our talents. The most essential skill to learning is being coachable. This is tough in the arts due to emotional attachment to work. Once the emotions are stripped one can learn to improve upon all aspects of their natural talents.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a twenty-plus-year veteran in the entertainment industry, it’s hard to tell what got me in the door other than sheer motivation to use my talents to improve others’ situations. Beginning with music engineering and growing into a total production and publishing powerhouse was motivated by helping others in the creative community. Expanding into distribution and media is an extension of that mission. Along with promoting and curating concerts and events, the goal is to help bring young talent to the door and watch them walk through. Setting apart my services from others by utilizing wisdom that can only come from actual experience. Most proud of the work I have done for others over the work I do for myself. Potential clients and colleagues can rest assured that I provide reality coaching instead of selling a dream.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The sheer joy of creating something seemingly out of nothing is the most thrilling and rewarding part of being a creative artist. Not being limited by roles or titles in the workplace and exploring talents across different skill sets keeps this motivation going throughout my career. Always willing to accept a challenge and explore new ways of celebrating my talents with the creative community with the hopes of inspiring others to do the same.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The entertainment business is filled with ups and downs. The best goal ever set to demonstrate resilience is to make every move bigger and better than the last. This goes for taking on new roles and responsibilities as well as increasing the impact of projects and goals. Greeting every opportunity and not taking them for granted regardless of the cost and time involved. Making the lessons into blessings in the face of loss and defeat.
