Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Serkan Altinoz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Serkan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I embarked on my artistic journey with the belief that it would lead to greater happiness, but over the years, I’ve come to realize that true happiness comes from within, not from external factors like one’s profession. However, when it comes to why I became an artist, the answer is simple: it’s the one thing I’m truly passionate about.
The idea of working a regular job with fixed hours is not only unappealing but suffocating to me. As a child, my one and only dream was to be free. And in my opinion, being an artist is the most liberating way to express oneself.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
“I am a Brooklyn-based artist who defies conventional categorization and limitations. My artistic practice is rooted in the exploration of the boundaries between the organic and inorganic, as well as the traditional and contemporary. With a seamless integration of ancient Turkish paper marbling techniques and experimental modern approaches, my work creates a captivating fusion of old and new, and East and West.
As an artist, I am characterized by the use of acrylic and enamel paints, chemical solvents, fire, and water to create abstract compositions that are inspired by the natural world and the human experience.
I relocated to New York in 2013 to explore and showcase my art. I push the boundaries of traditional marbling by manipulating both organic and inorganic pigments on the surface of water to transfer images onto a variety of materials such as paper, canvas, glass, and wood panels. In addition to this, I have also expanded my artistic expression by producing NFT videos using cutting-edge video editing software and AI technology.
My works have been featured in solo exhibitions across New York, including Salomon Arts Gallery and Queens Botanical Garden, as well as group exhibitions in Miami Beach, Chelsea, and Vermont. As an artist, I refuse to be confined by a single technique and am always exploring new possibilities and avenues for creative expression.
Through my art, I aim to challenge and inspire viewers to engage with the world in a more introspective and meaningful manner. My work seeks to encourage reflection and contemplation, and to push viewers to explore new and unique ways of seeing and understanding the world around us.”

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs allow me to prove ownership and authenticity of my artworks. This ensures that my work cannot be duplicated or stolen, which helps protect the value of my creations.
Also NFTs allow me to sell my work directly to buyers without the need for intermediaries such as galleries or auction houses. This can potentially increase revenue for me, as I can receive a higher percentage of the sales. Besides that NFTs allow me to receive royalties every time my work is resold. This means that if my artwork increases in value over time, I can continue to earn income from its resale.
Overall, NFTs can provide a new and innovative way for artists to monetize their digital artworks and protect their creations from unauthorized use.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can support artists and creatives by providing more funding and resources for the arts in education and in the professional world, offering more opportunities for collaboration and networking, valuing their work and providing fair compensation, and recognizing the importance of art and creativity in our daily lives.”
