We recently connected with Sergio Troconis and have shared our conversation below.
Sergio, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Early in your career, how did you think through the decision of whether to start your own firm or join an established firm?
Starting Point & Early Years:At the age of 20, I dove headfirst into the world of investor relations and capital raising when I was hired as a capital raiser for a real estate developer. This role laid the foundation for my passion for financial markets, eventually leading me to delve into stocks, forex, and crypto trading.
Reason for Resignation & The Pursuit of Freedom:The primary driver behind my decision to resign was for freedom and an appetite for personal growth. I aspired to start on my entrepreneurial journey, to chart my own course, free from corporate parameters.
Reflection & The Power of Self-Belief:Despite the scary idea of venturing out alone, I can say, without a moment of doubt, that resigning was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself entirely to my ventures, unwavering in my commitment to trust in and bet on myself.
Turbulence & Triumph:The subsequent years post-resignation were nothing short of a roller coaster. I encountered several challenges, particularly when the markets made a paradigm shift. It seemed like the trading strategy that took years do develop stopped working in a blink of an eye. I worked my ass off to stay calm and stay afloat but I realized something about myself, I needed movement., during this period, a revelation struck me: I thrived on dynamic, people-oriented environments. I have a saying, the eyes dont see, the mind does. You only perceive opportunity when you’re ready and truly looking. This was around the time I partnered with my current business partner in a marketing agency he was growing. And that’s where my second phase in entrepreneurship started. This realization catalyzed my pivot to exploring other parallel businesses, eventually in partnering with a growing marketing agency with a vast clientele of over 3,000 to 4,000 businesses.
Current Endeavors & The Road Ahead:The analytical side of me, coupled with a natural talent for investor relations, eventually led to the inception of Kerns Capital with my current business partner. As the COO and Managing Partner, I’m proud to say we’ve successfully launched three funds and are in the midst of rolling out our fourth. Our diversified portfolio encompasses a range of investment opportunities from U.S. equities, currencies, commodities, to private equity in prominent corporations, and even ventures into the aviation and aerospace sectors. Aside from having an incredible team of talent in our fund. We have been able to establish invaluable partners, seasoned professionals with over 18 years on Wall Street and over a billion dollars in assets under management. Experience that will help us propel our success
Sergio, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I gave an explanation on the last slide but to elaborate more, I got into the industry because we were in the right place at the right time. We had built a huge network of well established entrepreneurs and we wanted to develop a way to provide value to them aside from the services we provided.
We want to provide a wide range of investment vehicles and opportunities. We pride ourselves on thinking outside the box. finding opportunity and partnerships in alternative investments or non traditional investments is our bread and butter. I’m proud of how far we have come. Challenges will always be part of any business and we plan to overcome all of them effectively with targets always in mind. We are always determined to expand our fund and investors success guided by a vision that sees beyond immediate obstacles.
