We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sergio Escalona. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sergio below.
Sergio, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Before Artonit was used to name the brand, I had the idea of having a retail store where emerging artists could display and sell their artworks on many surfaces and techniques. That was when the name Art On It popped into my mind, which I later used for the cosmetic line, as it lined perfectly with the concept.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started to demonstrate my artistic abilities at a young age. My mother and grandmother ensured I nourished my talent by taking Art classes with the world-renowned painter Rechany. In my adolescence, I discovered that I could translate my art into a different canvas, the face. That’s when my journey in the cosmetic world started working with makeup and sequentially with prestigious brands such as Estee Lauder, Lancôme, Mac, Chanel, Nars, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace., Le Métier De Beaute, YSL, Sisley among others.
Artonit Cosmetics is a full-color cosmetics line made with premium makeup ingredients that look great, and its performance is excellent. The brand’s uniqueness is the Art displayed on its compacts, especially when there is only one’s heart and soul.
The most important lesson learned in the beauty business journey is that Beauty is how we feel.
For many years, I thought beauty was the perception of what was pleasant to our eyes, but it goes way beyond that, and Makeup plays a significant role in it.
I learned this lesson many years ago when an international Makeup Brand contracted me as the featured artist for the event. While working with a customer, I noticed my prior client was crying and comforted by the team. I had to stop and approach the situation as I knew it involved me completely. To my surprise, she was crying not because she didn’t like her make-up, but because she never saw herself so beautiful before. That’s when I discovered that Makeup is a fantastic tool to uplift yourself, not just superficial.
The cosmetics business is very competitive and expensive, especially if you have a limited budget. However, you can start selling your makeup by putting your name on good existing products and formulas.
I have also learned that the success of a business requires a lot more than positivism and a great desire to do it but discipline, a strong personality, a focused mind, hard work, and the support of your friends and family.
I am genuinely proud of what I have accomplished: A beautiful and unique Makeup brand that not only carries amazing makeup but is also a piece of art you can carry and call your own.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being 12 years in the business has revealed many aspects of myself and my personality that I recognize can be improved, and you might find something to improve on every day.
First of all, you have to DREAM.
You can achieve that specific goal and work for it. In the process, you will discover the many obstacles encountered trying to succeed, but always fight for your dream and let no one step on it.
However, remember that social relations are significant, and you need to put 100% in trying to connect to people.
People don’t buy a product but the person and experience.
I have fallen and failed many times, but that hasn’t stopped me from trying.
There are always obstacles and people who don’t like to see others grow, but that shouldn’t be what distracts you. Instead, focus on what you can do to improve your business and learn from your mistakes; those are free and, most importantly, build your character and strength.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media is a competitive market filled with great Artists expressing themselves like never before. What a talented world we live in!
Beauty is a market where social media is loaded with fantastic makeup artists showing their skills; however, as a male over 50, men didn’t wear makeup then, and I am not accustomed to it, making it difficult for me to create content like that.
Because acting is something I have always felt attracted to, I decided to introduce my Makeup-making little stories with visual effects, acting myself, and making the content fun, fresh, and different.
