We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sergio & Blanca Cazares & Ocegueda a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sergio & Blanca, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
We feel like life is all about taking risks. Some are bigger risks than others. When we decided to launch our business we took a very large risk with very little time to prepare. We had already spoken about plan about launching our small business. We started the conversation the week of thanksgiving 2020 and had the timeline of launching one product by January 2021. That gave us ample time to do our research and test out multiple recipes. That week afterwards, we ran into our friend who owns a coffee shop at the grocery store and shared with them our ideas. They then shared that they were going to have a Christmas holiday shopping pop-up at their shop and would love for us to be vendors there. They asked if we could be ready by then. Without hesitation we said yes. once we got home after talking about it some more we realized that only gave us 2 weeks to get our ideas going. It was a huge risk, we were essentially launching our business way before our set launch date. We worked endlessly to prepare everything and did so much research in order to perfect recipes. Little did we know these recipes would sell us out on two different occasions. It felt really good to have been able to accomplish that. With the world changing around us so rapidly i decided i would take another risk and quit my job in the community mental health field. Sergio was fully supportive of the descion. So we took another risk and have been in business since. It’s now June 2024. We both took risks that would have a huge impact in our lives regardless of the turn out but we trusted that whatever needed to happen would and trusted the best possible outcome would happen and so far it has. Taking risks keep life entertaining.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a couple who launched their small business in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. We aspired to bring the luxury mother earth provides us via skin/body care. Right before the lockdowns started we were going to day spas and really making an effort into caring for our vessel and taking care of our overall health. Once the lockdown happened we looked for way to bring that luxurious experience to our home. We started making things we’ve always made for ourselves such as the salt soak and the scrubs, we then sought to learn how to make other items to enhance our experience such as our shower steamer, candles, and moisturizers. We had two pop-ups to see how the community would react to our items and they were a hit. We eventually perfected our craft and built our brand name by being known for our luxury moisturizers that are made with 4 ingredients or less. That’s what we’re most proud of, being able to create top quality items that will help you achieve the results you want.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
We had to pivot and make major changes when we found out we were pregnant with our youngest daughter. The majority of our sales were at in person events, and markets. once we found out we quickly did everything we could to redirect our focus to transition to online sales as it would be awhile before we would be able to return to in person markets and events. It’s been a hard transition but it has been successful. Although theres always room improvement and growing!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of Mouth and in person events. Most of our new clientele come from word of mouth and people referring us new clients. Which we absolutely love!
