We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sergio Arce. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sergio below.
Sergio, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Back in April 2020, the Corona Virus had cause a big change to everyone daily life. For me, it meant hospitalizations were rising, both me and my spouse worked in healthcare now with bigger workload with higher risk. My two daughters were not able attend school in person and the need for home schooling. Before things started to reopen and life started to normalize again, I had decided to become a stay at home dad and focus on my family and also my passion as an artist. Shortly once businesses started to open their doors and tourism had become a reality, I decided to use my artistic talents and work for myself. I decided to become a full time artist, providing murals, graphic/logo designs, and focusing on selling my paintings. It’s been two years since and although at the moment the decision has uncertainty, I find myself happier and thriving working for myself. I’ve been able find clients, consistent work, traveled around different parts of the country providing my services, and meeting lots of wonderful people along the way.
Sergio, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As an artist I specialize in providing public artwork. My clients ranges from various business, corporate, and personal entities. I have work with local governments to provide public art for their cities, private contractors who are developing housings, local and large chain restaurants, along with major brands like Playboy, KSwiss, Wilson Sporting Goods just to name a few. For these businesses I have provided designing and fabrication of murals and art installations, as well as logo or graphic designs. What has gotten me new and repeated clients has been my work ethics, time management skills, having constant communication and being flexible with my clients needs.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Making new contacts and connecting with other peers who have a similar business has also played a part in landing new clients. Being courteous, understanding, and respectful of each individual client has helped provide good feedback from previous clients landing potentially more leads to new clients. Therefore Social media and word of mouth from previous clients has been the best source for me in finding new clients.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There are some opportunities for other muralist to be able find opportunities with various local communities, public artwork opportunities that are open to the public and anyone can apply as long as you qualify. I had applied to several of these opportunities and was faced with several rejection letters and these opportunities going to other people who have a similar business. By simply not giving up I was eventually able land a few of these opportunities which further helps my career and portfolio.
