Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sergejs Zelinskis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sergejs, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
A friend of mine owned a yacht and one day he asked me to help posting an ad to start using it for half and full day private charters. This was nothing I knew about but since his English was very poor, I decided to post an ad. We got somewhat busy quick on weekends. Shortly after, I met an old friend of mine who recently bought a yacht and started chartering as well. I decided to build a simple website with these two boats and started looking for a cool domain. That was very challenging because every single common sense combination of boat and yacht rentals and Charters were already taken. Except one.
Rent Boat in Miami .com
As soon as that was built, launched and attached to social media platforms, it got busy very fast. I started getting approached by different boat and yacht owners asking to add their boats to my website. Very quickly I knew what brands and what does not, what price will keep the boat owner busy and which price is not worth it. As of today, I have hand selected 60-70 vessels that are part of our portfolio.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Renting a boat in Miami can be quite challenging, possibly exhausting and sometimes financially risky.
At Rent Boat in Miami we are dedicated to provide you boating options instantly without hidden fees or up-charges.
We work directly with boat owners to ensure the most affordable charters with licensed captain and professional crew.
We offer a selection of 60 to 70 private boats and yachts famous for their party adventures.
Bring your own food and alcohol and party like a rockstar!!!
Our office is located in a heart of Miami South Beach at Lincoln Road Mall. Our yachts are scattered throughout private and seven public marinas of Miami, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
What makes us different from other yacht charter companies is honesty and forthcoming. I always try to imagine and put myself in their shoes to try to picture which vessel fits their occasion, budget and desired date. Quite often their party exceeds 13 people, which is max capacity for private charters by Coast Guard regulations. Not a problem! We pair up two or more yachts from the same marina and they can cruise side by side and tie up the vessels when docked together. We always try to go the extra mile to make every event a success.
We never demand any tip or add gratuity to the total advertised. In fact, very proud to say that we do not have any hidden fees at all. We feel that tip is totally voluntary and that appreciation is shown at the end of the charter, and is totally up to the client. If a client asks for a military or law enforcement discount we never say ‘no’ and always discount at least $100. That makes people trust us and come back again and recommend us to their friends and families and we gladly take care of them next and offer repeat customer discount.
We are slowly but surely changing that shady Miami reputation to a more positive direction by spreading good vibes and welcoming everyone back for more unforgettable yachting experiences.
Has it been a smooth road? What challenges have you faced along the way?
This venture has been somewhat a smooth road so far. The biggest challenge is to balance the busy and slow months. When it gets slow- it’s almost dead. The difference between the slowest and busiest months can be as many as 20 times. That reflects financially in the same proportions. That means that in the slowest months the income generated does not nearly cover the expenses while one month in a busy season can make up for the slower months. And that cycle repeats annually with and without severe weather conditions.
Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so –who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help?
The biggest credit I will probably owe to Debra Dawson from Miami Charters. She is the owner of one of the most reputable yacht management companies in South Florida for over 30 years. She showed me all DO’s and DONT’s in this chartering business. Honesty and loyalty is the key to success and now we work alongside on different custom getaways for celebrities and pro athletes that are seeking A class getaways with clean vessels, professional staff and a privacy guarantee.
