Serenity, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
I choose to go above and beyond EVERYDAY, for my clients. In my opinion, it’s just common sense. I did not go into this business looking at it from the perspective of just an income. Essentially, these people are an extension and a reflection of who I am. They wear my hair styles, they are in my presence and soak up the energy I give to them. So naturally, I want to make sure they are at peace and have the best experience possible. I have had various clients experience tragedy of unimaginable depths. I’m often moved by my clients strength in these situations so I gift them of free services. I believe it’s the right thing for me to do and it aligns with my purpose here within this community. I believe in karmic energy therefore I move about with my business in a way that benefits those around me in the best way possible.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Serenity Abrams. I am a transplant from Maryland and I have been immersed in the Hair industry, my entire life. I started doing hair in San Antonio a little before Covid, only servicing about three or four clients. As Covid strengthened, there was a need for Hairstylist and it was the perfect environment to take one client at a time. That has now developed into Bomb Ass Naturals.
My main focus are healthy locs and natural hair and I service clients as young as two years old.
What sets me apart from everyone else is the environment in which I allow people to experience their service. Each client is given the space to have a service one on one with me. I like to be able to control what people smell and hear when they come into my space. The biggest compliment I can get is when someone falls asleep in my chair. It lets me know that they are comfortable and that they trust me. When my clients see themselves afterwards and smile, hug me, or even cry, it validates why I feel like I should be in this industry..
The name Bomb Ass Naturals was a result of a collaboration between myself and my mentor. The name is a representation of the many facets of who I am. Bold, Fierce, Natural.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped me build my reputation is my personality and the environment in which I work. I treat people exactly how I want to be treated, and that’s with love compassion. Most of my business comes from word of mouth and I take pride in that. I wont let them walk out of the salon if they are not completely in love with how they look when they leave..
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Offering incentives for existing clients when they refer someone. For example, it can be as simple as 10% off for every client that books a service. It can be whatever you want it to be. This is what works for me and my type of clientele I don’t have to host a lot of sales for services but it’s always nice to give clients discounts so they can continue coming back.
