We recently connected with Serena Dewese and have shared our conversation below.
Serena, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I was a teenage I worked at a local restaurant in Summerville sc called “ Lillie”s cafe” where my grandparents owned. They served “Southern Dishes”. My grandfather always stated that he wanted to make the meals reasonable for anyone could afford them but also give them there “monies worth “ ..lol. So when he prepared the meals he always was heavy handed ,which means he’s always gave a whole lot on there plates enough for them to have seconds. So by him doing that as I got older and came up with my business name I wanted something unique and eyecatching so I came up with “A Mouthful Catering llc.” The name speaks for itself because I always give my customers “A Mouthful”.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Serena Dewese. I started out working in my family-owned restaurant back in 2012 called “Lillie’s Cafe” that my grandfather Major C . Bernard owned where we served southern food like Mac n cheese, Turkey wings, fried chicken, collards, and much more. We would have some of the local people around the neighborhood or just people passing by who would stop in to enjoy some of our tasty dishes with a friendly smile. Later on I ventured out and started my own catering company by the name of “ A Mouthful Catering llc. I’ve had the honor of providing exceptional service for my clients special day such as weddings, family reunions, private chef experiences and much more. I love that my clients can depend on me . There were times when they’ve called me because they were under the weather or they had family coming in town to visit at the last minute and needed me to come prepare tasty dishes for them. I’m like their superhero.”
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The most effective source for my new clients have been from referrals from satisfied existing customers because they already have a level of trust established with me.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think With the right blend of delectable food and commendable service will leave a longstanding impression.
