We recently connected with Serena Dailey and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Serena, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken is diving into the world of entrepreneurship and starting my own business! I had been working for a company in the immersive pop up event industry for 3 years and I decided it was time to do things my own way. My adventure in the immersive pop up industry all began when I decided to take a job as an actor in one of the first pop up experiences I had ever heard of! They were looking for a manager for the event in St. Louis. I had never managed before, but I knew I was a great leader so I decided to give it a shot. Looking back, that was the risk that started the entire journey down the path of my dreams! I became the manager and fell in love with leading these magical events to success. I started to travel across the continent and help open many different pop up experiences! All because of one small risk, I embarked on the journey of a lifetime creating magical beautiful experiences. The big risk was when I decided to start my own business. After years of experience directing these events, I decided it was time for me to take the leap of faith and do my own thing! The scariest part about starting your own company is that everything falls on you and nothing is guaranteed. You put so much money, time, and effort into creating something with the hopes of it being successful. It’s always a scary feeling starting something new. Entrepreneurship is not an easy one way road that takes you exactly where you want to be. It is a roller coaster of an expedition that takes you exactly where you NEED to be. I have a bachelors degree in Business Administration, years of experience in the industry, and an extensive background in the arts but nothing could have ever prepared me for the life of being a business owner! Even through all the challenges, I wouldn’t change it for a thing! The risk I took starting my own business has been the most rewarding experience I could have ever imagined. I get to create the events I want, the work environment I love, and the freedom of life I have always dreamed of. I learn new skills everyday, how to be a better boss, and how to handle the challenges thrown at me with grace. The risk I took paid off in so many ways! I created a life I love and I get to produce my own magical immersive experiences that help change peoples lives! I always tell people if you can, TAKE THE RISK! You’ll never know if you don’t try.
Serena, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a 28 year old St. Louis native who grew up loving the arts! I have spent my entire life doing dance, theatre, choir, music, and so many other artistic things. As I’ve got older I started to dive more into hula hooping, aerial arts, fire spinning, immersive set design, and other various forms of creative arts. The arts have shaped me into who I am today and I am blessed to be able to make a career out of it! I have always loved business as well, I graduated from Lindenwood University with my bachelors degree in Business Administration. All throughout college I was lucky enough to be a part of the theatre productions while learning about business. It really helped to shape the future of my career putting those two passions together! I am the founder and owner of Infinite Wonder Productions LLC. Infinite Wonder Productions is an immersive event company that showcases talented performers, art installations, captivating visuals, and transcending elements to create a one of a kind immersive/interactive production. We take pride in creating completely immersive experiences that have never been seen before! Our experiences transport our guests into a whole new world of beauty, magic, and wonder! Our main focus is creating themed pop up experiences that last a few weeks. We have done two big pop up experiences in the St. Louis area: Emerald City An Immersive Cocktail Experience and Circus of Dreams. We also do various other events such as concerts, dinner theatres, yoga, private parties, and much more. This company was founded on my passion for bringing magic and beauty into the world. Our mission is to produce high quality immersive experiences that create unforgettable magical moments for life! What sets us apart is that our events are created with passion. You can tell the love and hard work that goes into our projects, It’s also special being a St. Louis based company because I get to bring more art and entertainment to my hometown. I am so proud to be able to brighten peoples lives with fun, beauty, magic, and positive vibes! I take pride in creating these one of a kind experiences and sharing them with the world. Seeing people leave our shows with a smile on their face helps me to know I am making a positive impact and staying true to our mission!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Being a strong leader is hard work! You need to be a solid rock for your team at all times. I take pride in creating a fun, safe, and rewarding work environment for my employees. Setting a good example for your team is extremely important. You will gain more respect from your employees by being a team leader and it also creates a great learning opportunity for them. Keeping your work environment positive is extremely important! It’s probably my #1 goal as a business owner. I have experienced way too many toxic work environments in the past that destroyed morale. Keep things light, uplifting, and positive! It’s super important to alleviate any conflicts immediately as they happen. Do not let things get out of hand! Also make sure when you hire new employees that they are a good fit for the positive work environment that you create. Make sure you also ensure the importance of working together as a team! It’s all about us and we, not me and I. Also one of the most important things you can give your employees is RESPECT! I consider my team a family. I try not to micromanage them and give them the opportunity to do things their own way as long as it meets quality standards. I’ve learned that the more you respect your employees, the more they will respect you!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Marketing and social media is so important when growing your brand! I have received a lot of my new clients from news outlets and social media marketing. When we open a new show I love to do news interviews and articles. This ensures that you are reaching the masses and getting a broad scope of new clients. I like to use Facebook and Instagram ads when I’m targeting specific groups of people. This ensures that you are reaching new clients in your target audience! I think using a mix of different marketing tactics is how you create brand awareness. Also word of mouth is huge! You create good customer relationships through excellent customer service and producing high quality products. Happy and loyal customers will always bring you new referrals!
