Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Seraphim Benjamin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Seraphim, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
As any starving artist would when you start, you start from the bottom with putting your music together but for me, I had my own home studio. With trial and error, you don’t always start off making great music but you practice and continue to put material together. Eventually you create something you really enjoy but now, what do you do? Do your research, learn who handles putting out records or provide knowledge of such. A name I ran across was Wendy Day which I couldn’t put all her accomplishments on here. Safe to say is to google her but she has worked with and helped many heavy hitters in the music industry today and in the past.
Once reading up on Wendy and learning on some references that she advised to look up on in regards to learning things about the music industry, studied and learned the surface of the industry. Once learning, I decided to release my first record. After forming my record label (BITTA Records) in 2005 along with my brother Benni Banxx, we released “Put ‘Em Up Knuck Buck”, which debut on Billboard. Ever since, we have been pushing material and growing the label. Currently we have 3 divisions, BITTA DJs, BITTA Models, and BITTA Entertainment.
With any work or breakthroughs, you will run into snags and issues but you have to push through regardless. You can check out my current projects at www.dakashmere.com.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into this industry by wanting to become an artist when I was a teenager. When I started my label, I released my first record, “Put ‘Em Up Knuck Buck”, which charted on Billboard. I had also received much response to the record across the US and showed where the record was being picked up in other states and cities, even going across seas. It was a very big accomplishment to me and made me want to push harder to go mainstream.
When launching the label, I went with a song I had wrote for a group I had formed at one time. The name of the song was Blood Is Thicker Than Anything. So I had decided to abbreviate that and came up with BITTA Records.
What I would like for my potential followers and fans to know about us is that we like to bring good entertainment and create memories. I want my music to be timeless that years from now it will still be listened to and admired
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation in my market is networking. Over the years, I had met with several people and exchanged information as well as mad myself valuable to others.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, there is a book that I read, twice actually. The name of the book is “All You Need to Know About the Music Business” by Donald S. Passman.
