Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Serafina Abrams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Serafina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
I’d never been self employed before but I was ready in the months just before the pandemic hit in the U.S. My vision was to create a service that combines two established approaches in the wellness/therapy industries – astrology readings and energy healing using Reiki – and offer them as stand alone services or combine them into one session. Often, in astrology readings the client’s life challenges are focused on which can sometimes include personal trauma that the client still carries. I think it’s important to use Reiki energy to heal the pain that’s found during astrology readings or for an individual facing a health or psychological challenge. While I am not a therapist, I am a credentialed, professional astrologer and a certified Reiki practitioner and have helped many people have a better understanding of their lives and heal. My biggest challenge was setting up the social media and digital infrastructure to promote my business and allow clients to book services online. It took time to set it up, get unbiased input from outside professionals and test and launch the platforms I had created. My advice for a young professional is to make sure you create the time to create consistent content for your platforms, to create effective, measurable marketing programs, stay on top of where your potential clients are in the digital world and, once you have them as clients, be clear up front with a disclaimer about what you do and don’t do (get them to e-sign it) and do everything you can to follow up with and take good care of your client’s needs in as personalized, but not intrusive, manner.
Serafina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Serafina Abrams, founder and CEO of Astrological Healing + Reiki LLC.
I want to bring healing to the world one person at a time with astrology, Reiki and deep listening. The world is undergoing a transformation in these early stages of an era with Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius. I want to use this new Aquarian energy to create a world that uses our human power to heal instead of to dominate and oppress others.
What makes Astrological Healing + Reiki LLC different is that I make it easy to not only understand client challenges but work on healing them with Reiki afterward if the client chooses.
When I do an astrology reading, I analyze birth charts to help guide clients through life challenges, create clarity about their future and help people get a better understanding of who they are. We look at different life issues – career, relationships, finances, whatever is of concern – and talk about them in depth. Astrology can help someone understand why things are happening and how to work with the energy they have now and in the future. I have decades of self teaching, formal classes studying astrology, including with astrologer Anne Ortelee and with astrologer Bhaskar Yogi while I was in India. I belong to the Organization for Professional Astrology (OPA), the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR) and the Association for Young Astrologers (AYA). I’ve completed ISAR’s training in Ethics and in Consulting Skills, and the International Academy of Astrology’s courses in Medical Astrology and in Birth Chart Rectification (finding out a person’s birth time).
I’m also a certified Reiki practitioner who has attained the Second Degree of training in the Usui Reiki System of Natural Healing with Reiki Master Patty Shaw. The word Reiki is created by combining two Japanese words; Rei or God’s wisdom or higher power and Ki or life force energy. Practicing Reiki for healing and stress reduction involves having the practitioner use the energy from their open chakras to heal the client by placing their hands near the client, or sending the energy remotely. It is not a religion and is a gentle, positive energy transfer from my chakras to the client’s. Reiki is now practiced in some hospitals as a complementary healing service for those recovering from illness or wanting to alleviate medical treatment side effects. I’ve had many satisfied clients with Reiki who report a sense of calm, peace and wellness after one or more sessions.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I am thrilled to be doing this important service now because I am doing what I am passionate about and have been my whole life. This business is a genuine expression of who I really am and offers me an outlet for helping others and healing some of the pain in the world, one person at a time.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Listen, listen, listen to your clients and meet them where they are. I work hard on connecting with them one-on-one and using my skills to provide them with what they are asking for and how they are asking for it to be delivered rather than trying to push them to fit the mold I’ve created with my content and services.
