Alright, Sequoia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
When I first thought about starting my business, it was during the pandemic. I wanted to find something I enjoyed doing, and could possibly make a living out of it. First, thing I did was pray and ask god to open my ears, mind, heart, and a spark of creativity. Then I started all these different hobbies for example, resin art , learning about crystals, my sister introduced me to waist beads, and I was already obsessed with accessories. Next, I thought about how I could incorporate all these things together and that’s when my business name popped into my mind!! Kute Sis Accessories!!! Why not incorporate everything I love into an accessory boutique! Everywhere I would go someone was always telling me how they like what I had on. They would say “Omg that’s cute sis!”So it all started from there!
That’s when I started making jewelry and collecting crystals and gemstone accessories and so forth. I had a little bit of experience with putting this together because I use to sell jewelry through Paprizzi. Once I made enough products, myself and two other friends got together and hosted our own pop up shop where family and friends came to support us !! The sales were so good that day, I then believe that I could possibly continue to this. After a few more events, learning how to market, make websites, flyers, and formulating my LLC , I knew I was ready to be committed to this business. During this time alot of other people in the community started hosting pop up events and I attended them and made more sells to eventually I was a blooming into a full out well known brand.
After about a year into starting my business I finally found my niche! I knew what my customers like and wanted, I focus on my demographics and maximize my sales in my jewelry business.
Sequoia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My accessories are for men, women, kids , young/old and people from all different type of backgrounds, who love to be unique and have statement pieces that strangers will compliment them on. My products are about self expression, and bringing people together over a laugh, cry , or a simple hi! I have thousands of pictures with my customers and have personal relationships with most. When you come to my booth/store I’m not just selling you jewelry but an experience, and a honest relationship that will make you want to come back or tell a friend.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of clients have came from working pop-ups in the community. The best event I’ve work would have to be the Taste of Soul Festival, that happens in the Crenshaw District every October! This event put me over the top with clientele and revenue! As working KJLH Women Events, Juneteenth Festivals, Jazz, Vegan Exchange, Art Shows Events , just to name a few! My brand is also inside a retail store called My Black Beauty Box inside the Crenshaw Mall. In this store not only will you find my brand but you can also find 60 different retailers to shop with there also. I have a website https://Kutesis.com.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
What’s keeps me going in my business is my love for people, new surroundings, and experiences that I can share with my family and friends. I truly enjoy what I do. This business has been my full time gig since starting it and I haven’t had to work for anyone else in the past 3 years so this has truly been a blessing! Yes, sales have their ups and downs, good months and Great months but having a overall good attitude, adaptability, and ambition is the drive you need to run your own company. I recently was available to put my brand in a couple of stores; My BBB, in Los Angeles, Urban Market Store at Westminster Mall and coming soon Bottoms Up store in Ontario, and more stores coming soon! This is a great accomplishment for me because I really started my brand from the ground up and to see how its flourishing now is truly amazing!!
