We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sequoia Nacmanie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sequoia below.
Hi Sequoia, thanks for joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Learning to respect myself, my time, and to not overgive beyond my capacity and beyond what I was being paid for were the most important lessons Iearned in a whole host of situations, but most especially as a public school teacher.
As almost every public school teacher will tell you, you’re expected to work in your off time, spend your own money and go above and beyond all the time. It’s unsustainable and unethical. And teachers, me included for a time, fall into the trap of “but it’s for the kids.”
Districts and governments know teachers feel this way and take advantage of their good nature and love of kids and teaching.
Sequoia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a Spiritual Counselor, Money Mentor and Intuitive Guide. Helping people heal, whether through spiritual counseling, tarot reading, teaching, or money mentorship is what I am on this Earth to do. (I’m also a musician and currently share that through weekly sing-a-longs in elder care facilities.)
Most often the people that come to me are one or more of the following: empaths, creatives, spiritual business owners, highly sensitive people, queer, neurodivergent. No surprise, since I am all of those things myself! My clients are also deeply committed to their own growth.
I help clients set and maintain wise boundaries, heal their relationship with money so that it becomes peaceful and joyful, run their life and business in an ethical and sustainable way, receive Divine Guidance, and develop their own intuition and energetic hygiene.
Pride in my work comes from helping people heal themselves and find their own path, rather than “fixing” or saving someone. The work is so much more profound when done this way. I’m always saying “I won’t save you. I’ll help you heal and guide you along the way, but I can’t and won’t do the work for you.”
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Integrity – I think that’s deeply important for anyone building their reputation. Being true to your word, authentic to yourself and honest are crucial. Those are the keys to building a truly loyal community and client base.
Of course, also being good at what I do! Which comes from – yes, natural intuitive and teaching ability, but also through cultivating those skills and learning new ones, to serve people better and more fully.
I also make it a point to ask people to refer me to others and encourage word of mouth.
And always, practicing what I preach.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, I love my work in helping people heal, whether through spiritual counseling, tarot reading, money mentorship, music or teaching. In some ways, I wish I got to where I am sooner. That being said, I think the experiences I had and other types of work I did along the way were all necessary to lead me where I am now.
And I always continue to grow and evolve personally and professionally. Right now, I’m pursuing my Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor certification and studying to become a Certified Financial Therapist -I.
I see this as putting additional tools in my toolbox to serve my clients fully and bring more justice to the world. Plus, I love learning. (Yes, I’m a Gemini sun and Libra rising!)
When I look back on all the work I’ve ever done (including waiting tables, farmwork with edible flowers, and public school teaching) and the work I do now, it’s always been about serving people and helping them heal. That’s the through-line of it all.
