We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sequoia Boyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sequoia, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company, Everlasting Events, was inspired by my grandmother, who passed away two years ago. The initials of her name are incorporated into the business as a tribute to her. She left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her, and that’s the driving force behind my company. Our goal is to ensure that every display creates a meaningful and memorable experience for all who attends events we’ve featured in.
Sequoia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are a small business catering to smaller events in the DFW area. We have a wide range of selections of balloon displays from arches to full set ups. We are also hoping to expand into provide full event services which would include balloon displays and table settings as well. Our goal is to make sure each client has a lasting memory from every display we are able to provide.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that everyone has their own unique journey. For a long time, I found myself comparing my business to other local artists, aspiring to reach their level of success. However, I’ve come to understand that success doesn’t happen overnight, and each path unfolds at its own pace. Many small business owners invest a significant amount of time and effort in the early stages and it’s important to stay patient and confident in my own vision for Everlasting Events.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media has been our most effective source of new clients. In today’s internet driven world, establishing an online presence is one of the quickest ways to expand your client base. I’ve also joined local Facebook groups for small business in my area, where I regularly promote Everlasting Events when someone is looking for a balloon artist. Even if the initial inquiry doesn’t lead to a booking, it increases our visibility for future opportunities. As we continue to grow our social media following, we’re open to exploring additional methods that can increase our success.
