We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful SeQuan Tutt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with SeQuan below.
SeQuan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
I used to do everything for my company on my own when I first started out. Trust and letting people in were really important to me. No one was allowed to alter or sacrifice my vision. It took me a while to understand that asking for help wasn’t necessarily a bad thing and that doing so would relieve a lot of the stress on me. Additionally, I had to consider where my journey was going and how I wanted to advance my company. To push the idea without compromising the integrity of my business, I needed to be in the correct frame of mind to be more transparent with others.
I started out by going to Indeed and posting a few adverts for various positions, including assistant and fashion stylist. In all honesty, I was really nervous to do interviews at first, but I rapidly overcame my reservations and enjoyed talking with the candidates. Few individuals I found truly grasped my brand’s culture and my objectives. Since my company was just getting started at the time, they were perfect for it. I started seeking for freelancers to join my team as my needs for my team changed as the firm grew. I believed that was the greatest option because I wanted people who worked in their profession and made a living from it, and I have to admit that thus far, it’s been going really well. I adore my team and would never exchange them!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I launched my first business in 2019, that is when my career in fashion and business really began. With every customer I worked with, my fashion knowledge grew. I started to comprehend how various body types corresponded to various color schemes and fashion trends. I was ready on the business side because I studied at Alabama A&M University and earned an M.B.A. I surely learned the information I needed to start my business. I undoubtedly learned everything I needed to know about business and the start up process. My knowledge of websites, flyers, and graphics came from YouTube and trial and error.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I was able to maintain my emphasis on my love of making anyone I styled or work with get’s my the best of me by being able to design distinctive, individual looks tailored for each customer while maintaining my signature. My unique perspective, commitment to make each and every one of my clients feel special, and never-ending desire to innovate have allowed me to stay competitive in a field that is constantly evolving. My goal for my company is to be a lighthouse for his customers, guiding them toward realizing their aspirations!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
One approach to gain new clients is through referrals, but if you wait around for your present clients to recommend their friends and relatives to you, it can take a while. Take control by putting in place a procedure for aggressively requesting recommendations from your delighted clients. Include activities that generate referrals in the sales process. Send a follow-up email, for instance, asking for a recommendation after a customer has received a purchase from your online store. When my team members follow up with consumers to provide information after the sale, I make sure they do it by asking for references.
Networking is a very useful tool as well. I promote my business through networking with people in your sector and at events that are important to your clients. Always approach networking with the mindset of “How can I help others?” as opposed to “What’s in it for me?” By considering how you may be of service, you can create connections that bring in new clients.
