We recently connected with Seniorita Ivey and have shared our conversation below.
Seniorita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name Ivey Lens Photography is elegant, creative, and personal! “Ivey Lens Photography” was inspired by my personal journey and creative vision. Ivey is my last name, representing my identity and roots. Lens reflects my unique perspective as a photographer, and Photography is, of course, what I love to do—capturing life’s most beautiful and meaningful moments.

Seniorita, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! I’m Seniorita Ivey, the creative mind and heart behind Ivey Lens Photography. My journey into photography started at an early age with a love for creating memories—capturing the small, meaningful moments that make life so special. Over time, this passion grew into a purpose: helping people preserve their most treasured memories through my lens.
Ivey Lens Photography is all about connection, authenticity, and artistry. I specialize in portraits and sports and I take pride in creating a comfortable, fun, and personalized experience for every client. My goal is not just to deliver beautiful images but to document the essence of your story in a way that feels timeless and unique to you.
What sets me apart is my perspective—both literally and figuratively. My business name reflects this: “Ivey” honors my roots and personal identity, while “Lens” represents how I see the world. I bring creativity, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail to every session, ensuring that each photo reflects the real you.
For my clients, I strive to solve more than just the need for great photos. I help ease the stress of planning, guide you with posing (or help you embrace natural candidness!), and create an environment where you can just be yourself. Whether it’s documenting love stories, celebrating family milestones, or capturing the raw energy, emotion, and action of athletes in motion, I’m here to help you preserve what matters most.
I’m especially proud of the relationships I’ve built through my work. Many of my clients have become friends, and that trust is something I deeply value. Photography is more than a service to me—it’s a collaboration, and I’m honored to be part of so many meaningful moments.
For anyone considering working with me, I want you to know that Ivey Lens Photography is about more than just pictures. It’s about creating an experience, celebrating your unique story, and crafting images that you’ll cherish for years to come.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that success isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being authentic.
When I first started Ivey Lens Photography, I put immense pressure on myself to deliver flawless images and have every aspect of my business polished to perfection. I believed that being perfect would be the key to attracting clients and earning their trust. But over time, I realized that striving for perfection often held me back. It led to overthinking, delaying projects, and even doubting my own creativity.
The turning point came during a session where things didn’t go as planned. The weather shifted, and a few of my planned poses weren’t clicking. Instead of panicking, I decided to lean into the unexpected—letting the session flow naturally and focusing on the connection between my clients. The result? Some of the most heartfelt and genuine photos I’ve ever captured. My clients loved them, and I learned that authenticity is far more impactful than perfection.
This lesson reshaped the way I approach my work and my business. Now, I embrace imperfection as part of the creative process. I focus on creating meaningful experiences for my clients, trusting that the magic often lies in the unplanned moments. It’s freed me to be more creative, take risks, and enjoy the journey—flaws and all.

Have you ever had to pivot?
A few months ago, Ivey Lens Photography faced a turning point. I was focusing on full-length sessions, which were my bread and butter, but I noticed a shift in my clients’ needs. With busy schedules and tighter budgets, many were looking for shorter, more affordable options without compromising on quality.
Rather than seeing this as a limitation, I embraced it as an opportunity to pivot my business. I introduced mini sessions, starting with a fall-themed series. These quick, high-energy shoots allowed me to cater to families, couples, and individuals who wanted beautiful, professional photos but didn’t have the time or resources for a full session.
The response was overwhelming. Mini sessions have become a cornerstone of my business. This pivot is not only helping me grow my client base, but also teaching me to adapt and innovate based on my clients’ evolving needs.
