We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Seneca “Sir Classic” Mcfarland a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Seneca “Sir Classic”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Well I would like to start off by saying that the name of our record label was not what it is today, we had a totally different name that we were going by at first, The name of our company came from a combination of my female friend that was staying with me at the time and my other male friend that kinda gave me the name Dictator and the direction to go with Dictator Records. My female friend would always say that when I spoke to her, I would always make remarks of demanding her to do stuff than rather asking her to do something so she end up calling me a Dictator. One day my male friend came over to meet me at my house to head up to my shop, and on our way there, I was telling him about how my female friend was calling me a dictator, so he said that it had a nice ring to it and said I should use the name and suggested that I use the character from the popular street fighter video game as part of our company logo. After that period I sketched out the original design layout for our record label logo and later hired another artist to revamp the logo and ever since then we have been using the name and rolling strong with our company name and record label brand.

Seneca “Sir Classic”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
To all your readers and audience my name is Sir Classic and I am a DJ, record producer and entrepreneur in the music and entertainment industry. I first got into the music industry at a young age, that stemmed from my hobby of collecting music ranging from records, CD’s and cassettes that evolved in me first opening up a record shop that sold music to the local community and later starting our record label called Dictator Records that signed local artists that we marketed and promoted on a local and regional level across the country. Our record label offers recording agreements, music management and music production agreements to recording artists to help them in their music career. What sets our record label and I apart is that we have carved out our own path and we operate in our lane. I am most proud of myself for starting our record label that is still operating till this present day and how we have been able to diversify our record label by branching off into other areas of the music business.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, I would probably say the most rewarding aspect is being able to create a piece of art, In my case produce a song or video and later being able to collect royalties from the usage of the content from various platforms.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I would say what helped me build my reputation is being consistent and building a one on one relationship with our clients.
