We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Senasha Price. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Senasha below.
Senasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have always loved music, but was scared to take a leap of faith. Solely depending on a creative passion for income is scary, and it requires flexibility, ingenuity, and tenacity. I started doing music on the side as a therapeutic release. To be honest it took a life of its own. I did pour into, and made plans to help it grow, but I also let it naturally take its course, and I followed.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I sing, and provide musical entertainment. I started off uploading videos to social media, then I went out to perform live. I took vocal lessons, dance lessons, and learned the art of stage presence. What I think sets me apart from everyone else is my work ethic, tenacity, and entertainment style. I study performers before my time, music history, instruments, and I take the time to show the beauty of what music does for people. Music can uplift someone’s mood, comfort someone feeling down, and it is even used in therapy. Learning all of this helped me to appreciate the service that music provides. I take my time understanding, and learning my craft to give the best quality I can.
I am most proud of my growth as a musician. I started out in orchestra as a young child, went into singing, songwriting, performing, and now learning piano. As I look back through my journey, and the passion stands out. It was the only way I was able to get through the highs and lows of keeping with my dreams. I want to anyone reading this to know that dreams start with something you love. Once you find that you can keep chasing, and growing that dream. The branding, marketing, and clientele will come.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is something I have learned is built over time, and through trials. I have had my share of situations that really forced me to find inner strength, and also learn to lean on others for help. There have been a few times in my journey where I was not being booked very much for live performances. I started to really buckle down on budgeting, and learning accounting to manage my finances. Learning accounting was very difficult for me. I spent many hours each week with a tutor to make sure that once the course was over I understood how to manage business finances, and project things like income and expenses. After picking up this skill, which took a few months, I was able to not worry during slower seasons and I took that time to plan out more creative events and learning what new production, and technology I could add to grow my audience.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
There are tons of resources I wish I knew starting out, but if I had them I don’t think my story would be as impactful. Having to learn things along the way has kept me agile, and I do my best to keep up with the evolution of music. I learned there are music organizations that can really power your dreams. I learned about networking not only with musicians, and businesses, but with other people in technology. I had a project working with a graphic designer where they were able to create a promotional video I could use on social media to market a music event. I learned about accounting which helped me sustain myself when depending on a creative art for income. There are many more I am learning along the way, and I am starting to appreciate it that way.
