Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Selin Eskandarian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Selin, appreciate you joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I started playing violin professionally about 25 years ago. I was playing with a lot of bands and doing a few solo things here and there, but in 2020 I decided to do the Arizona bridal expo, so I came up with my company, Esko Violin, where I am a one woman band, veteran owned, and I do weddings and large corporate events. I pretty much do all events as well, and I do this full-time.
Selin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Playing when I when I was 11 years old and professionally about 25 years ago. I got into this industry back in 2019 when someone asked me to play violin for their wedding. I never took private lessons and basically learned how to play by ear. What sets me apart from others is the style I play. Every violinist plays in different styles, but my style is very unique. I am proud of my business ethics and how focused I am with my career.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way to support artists is to not ask them to do free events and to be happy to pay their full price
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing how happy I get to make people with my music.
