We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Selentia Q. Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Selentia Q. below.
Selentia Q., thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My legacy is important to me. I have a mandate over my life to strengthen, empower, and be used as a vessel to build confidence in children and youth through the arts. Many adults, teachers, and community leaders saw my gifts and talents. They identified strengths in me that I could not see in myself. They lead me to focus on my leadership skills at a very early age. My single-parent Mother was my very first teacher and cheerleader. She struggled in many areas of her life but she never struggled with supporting me and being proud of me. My Mother left me a legacy of love and caring for others. She had an amazing village that supported her as a single parent Mother. My legacy is built on wholeheartedly supporting communities of the world through the performing arts. The human spirit of children and youth can not thrive spiritually, emotionally, and mentally without awareness of the greatness of their creativity. I have been blessed with the gift of teaching, captivating, and motivating through theater and the power of it to change people’s lives, especially our youth. I hope to be remembered for loving passionately, teaching courageously, and touching lives all over the world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The Big Dreams Project Performing Arts Training Program is most excited about our training classes in acting, dance, creative movement, vocal music, instrumental music, our films, and live on-stage theatrical productions. Children and youth experience the depth of their gifts and talents. They get the satisfaction of inspiring their audiences through the power of theater. Our technical training affords them this opportunity.
I persevered because I could see that my environment, as a child, was not designed to move me forward in a positive direction. I moved forward with the encouragement of teachers and mentors who saw me and acknowledged my gifts and talents. They had a passion for children and passed it on to me. Overcoming my challenges was a hard push. Many things around me, where I grew up said, “No do not grow! Stay right where you are!” I did not listen. I pushed. I overcame many challenges by staying focused and choosing my crowds and supporters wisely. And when I make mistakes, I correct them and move on.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have a heart for children’s spiritual, emotional, and creative development. My nonprofit youth performing arts training program, Wisdom Arts Inc/The Big Dreams Project, teaches children and youth that there is a process of learning and developing their gifts and talents. The focus is also on values and character building, not just entertainment. Our unique emphasis is preparing young creatives to get ready for the world. To get ready for whatever career path they choose. I also teach theater with the best arts team in Atlanta at Atlanta Smart Academy Performing Arts Middle Charter School.
I am inspired by growing up in the inner city with a struggling single-parent mother. She and my teachers were my greatest cheerleaders and inspirations. They empowered me and always made me believe there was so much more in me than I could see at an early age. Confidence and love go hand in hand when supporting a child’s life.
Parents are attracted to the family values and nurturing of our organization. We support our youth as much as possible, outside of our organization. Youth get excited about the fact that they make lifelong friends at The Big Dreams Project and the fact that they become friends who have an opportunity to bond. Their onstage chemistry is electrifying.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The personal touch is important to me. Knowing children, youth and parents by name is essential. Calling them by name is a must. I’ve learned that everyone does not have a passion, for children as I do. I’ve learned that finding your tribe is so important and standing strong on your vision and God-given direction is even more important. My brand is a legacy divinely designed to touch lives through the arts in ways I may not even fully ever know. As a teacher, director mentor, and friend, my mandate is to make a difference in the lives I am honored to serve.
Parents have good intuition and discernment. When it comes to who is directly involved with their children, parents pay closer attention than they used to. When you pour into the lives of children, you are definitely “planting seeds” that are deeply rooted in the soil of time.
