Selenia, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.

My mother has always been one of my biggest supporters. Growing up, my mom always encouraged me, supported me, and pushed me to do my best. No matter what I wanted to do, she always stood by me and believed in my abilities. Even today, my mom remains one of my biggest supporters. She’s always telling people about me and the things that I do, she shares all of my posts from my business page on Facebook, and is always telling me how proud she is. If it weren’t for my mom constantly encouraging me to be unapologetic-ally myself, I’m not sure I would have chosen this path so easily.

Selenia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Selenia Rodriguez and I’m a Certified Holy Fire III Karuna Reiki Master and a Certified Sound Healer. There are many things in my life that led to the decision to pursue this path. Like I mentioned in my previous article, I’ve always been more into the magical things in life. I’ve always felt like I was a healer from a young age. When I was younger I would play around with friends and do crystal healing and healing with colors. I began to read all kinds of books and listen to different healers and other people in the spiritual community.

When I was 21 I took a level I Reiki Class and my life began to change in such a beautiful way. Currently I’m certified in the highest level of Holy Fire Reiki and after 8 months of training, I’m now certified as a Sound Healer as well. The journey with Sound Healing has been beautiful and magical as well. I’ve always loved singing but was always too shy to do it in front of others. Recently I was blessed enough to be able to train through such a lovely and powerful soul, Kimberly Harrison, and now I finally have this amazing opportunity to use my voice to help heal others.

What I’ve been doing is blending the Holy Fire Reiki with the Sound Healing during sessions and it’s been a game changer for my business, my clients, and for me as a practitioner. I have always had this feeling that something was missing from my Reiki sessions and now I know that it was sound healing. While doing Reiki, I also tone, sing, and use whichever instrument I feel guided to use during the individual sessions. That could include crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, tingshas, tuning forks, and a Bahia Bass Buffalo drum.

Combining these two modalities has been a powerful experience and I believe this is something that is setting me apart from others. Not to say there aren’t others out there doing this same work but every practitioner is going to do things differently and clients will feel drawn to certain practitioners for different reasons. With that being said, I do still provide individual Holy Fire Reiki sessions and Individual Sound Healing sessions.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?

Other than training and knowledge, I think experience and genuine care for others’ well-being is most helpful for succeeding in this field. By experience, I don’t mean one must have years of experience to know what they’re doing or in order to be trusted by others. By experience I mean actually experiencing it. A person can read every book and talk about their knowledge all day but do they really know unless they get out there and experience it first hand? Reiki and Sound healing training was wonderful. Learning about all the science, techniques, and my teachers experiences was great but I didn’t actually realize the true depth of what sound healing and Reiki could do until I was out there experiencing it. Now that I’ve had experiences, I can talk about it with confidence, I can feel good about what I’m doing, and I can make my potential clients feel good and excited about it too.

When it come to genuinely caring for others, I feel that is fairly simple to understand. Money is obviously important but if people are only doing this for the money, they won’t get very far. When you truly care for others’ well-being, they can feel it and if they can feel it, then chances are they are going to want to keep coming back for your services. When you care for others, this is when you can make the biggest impact in their lives.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

I’ve had to regrow my business a couple times because of moving to new cities and in my experience, the most effective strategy has been offering free sessions, or consultation type sessions so I could really get my name out there. There are so many ways to go about this like offering free sessions a couple times a month on Facebook, offering a raffle of sorts, or offering 20 minute consultations to people with the promise that that money will go toward their session if they decide to book. Luckily I had to put in 33 practice hours for my Sound Healing certificate recently so I was able to build up a new clientele list this way. Offering a number of free back to back sessions is a good thing to take into consideration if you are looking to build your clientele list from nothing.

Another simple but useful strategy is simply letting people know what you do. You can never truly know who will be interested in your work unless you speak up and say something. I convinced myself for so long that I knew what kinds of people would be interested in my work and I basically kept my abilities a secret from everyone else. I have learned in recent years that I was wrong. Now I tell everyone and I have been pleasantly surprised at how things have flourished for me. On top of this, someone will almost always know at least one other person who would be interested, so once again, word of mouth is very powerful when it comes to building clientele.
