Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Selena Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Selena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I want to leave a legacy of resiliency. When you are born into poverty and lack of resources most would believe you would be hopeless. I myself have been hopeful and have led a vision filled life. I now want to show my children that they can achieve anything in life they want. I now know if I put my mind to something it can manifest and I want to spread that message to others and empower them with reassurance and encouragement.
Selena, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my brand Already Dope to shed light on the uniqueness of a person. How important it is for our self awareness and being visible in society today. The Hip Hop era has a major influence on our brand and how Dope is a way to “BE” Already Dope gives you permission to take control of the moment and ownership of your sense of style. Our unisex collection of bucket hats, T shirts, hoodies, and classic dad hats are assessable online on our website. I want to continue to spread the message of self love and affirmation in a tangible way. Already Dope is a movement that I want to make an impact on our youth because self confidence enhances healthy relationships.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
This brand can from my mom. She was burned in a house fire in 2019. I started selling the T shirts to make money to get myself to the hospital and to take care of my expenses without having to keep asking others for help. Since starting the brand my mom passed away in 2020 and I have continued on to push through in her honor. This brand has empowered me to now want to empower others with a message of encouragement and self worth.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We are on shopify. As we are still a new business I’m still learning how to manage the many platforms and social media networks. Nothing happens over night and I’m definitely doing my research and maintaining a quality product for our customers to purchase.
