We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Selena Parker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Selena thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Having clarity on who you are as a person to have clarity on what you’re doing. When you know who you are and what direction you’re going in, it makes business better. Clarity helps you make decisions, create products, and provide inner direction during challenging times.

Selena, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Selena Parker and I am owner of Socialite Body Essentials and JMT Photography and Design. Socialite Body Essentials is an energy-conscious body care and wellness company that began in 2017 in our kitchen. We specialize in hand-made body butters, body oils, natural facial care, hair care, and herbal wellness products. We solve problematic skin issues with a focus on energetic manufacturing. We intentionally create our products with positive energy that allows our customers to not only look good but feel good when they apply our products.
I am most proud of the products I create that solved issues within my family. Any skin issue my children experienced has been resolved by my research into what can help alleviate their problem and implementing a solution. As a mother, being helpless when your child has a problem is not a good feeling. I’m so proud that most of their issues have had resolution.
Our products reflect who we are as people and as a family. It’s important to know who and what is making your products because energy is contagious. Have you ever had something from some one and it just felt off or not for you? That could be because the energy it was made in was not a peaceful or positive place. We only develop products when we are in a good space to create. This renders products that are made correctly and with love so that vibration is felt AND the product works.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being myself has been the best strategy. My customer base prefers to purchase products from me because I show up as myself. Sometimes, when you decide to start a business, you may assume customers want to see you in a certain light but maybe that light isn’t who you are. There’s been times where I’ve tried different things thinking customers may want that instead but, the more I decided to be myself is when I saw the growth in sales and support. It’s important to ask customers for their opinions as far as what they want. Branding wise, I’ve found that people want genuine people they can relate to.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My partner, my husband Brandon, and I met while both being hired at the same job in 2011. We got engaged in 2016 and in 2017, we leased a 4,00sq warehouse in Taylor, MI. We had samples of body butter available at the grand opening and they sold out. We THEN got married in New Orleans later that year and the rest is history. Socialite became Socialite after we got married and we’ve been going ever since.
