We were lucky to catch up with Selena Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Selena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
I definitely would definitely research my niche and targeted audience. The reason for that is because without knowing your target audience or niche,it can bring on challenges in the future. For example you may be unsure as to whom your trying to reach, or what your ideal customer is. And so researching all of this before you start helps with any challenges you may encounter.

Selena, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Selena Martinez and I am a Nail Artist. For me it was just a mere dream when I was 15, so I never knew that this would turn into my passion/career. I got into the beauty industry because I wanted to learn proper care when it comes to nail health and everything in general when it comes to the beauty of us women worldwide. A way that I keep myself disciplined when it comes to running my business, is only invest in products and inventory that is needed. It helps me from buying things I don’t really need. I provide custom luxury press on nails and gel polish. One of the main problems I help customers with is the proper education on healthy nail care. What sets me apart is I take time to get to know each and everyone of my clients, its more than just doing nails, its knowing the little things that make your customers smile and uplifting them. I am proud that I took a vision and turned it into my reality and its something I can leave for my children to inherit.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
For me it started when the COVID-19 Pandemic started, I used my checks that I was receiving from unemployment to fund and start my business and a year later when I filed my taxes I paid for my business license.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience my creating tutorial videos and some transitional videos displaying my work. My best advice is to stay consistent, because the hard work will pay off. And folks are always watching you, some are just waiting on the right moment.
