We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Selena Lightfoot. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Selena below.
Selena, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the one I’m working on right now—my EP called Heartbreak Lovergirl, which comes out this December. This project is really special to me because it reminded me why I fell in love with making music in the first place. This EP also shows my vulnerability side which I was sort afraid of showing. Writing has always been my way of letting out my emotions and expressing what I feel inside. This EP tells a story about love, loss, and finding myself again after a heartbreak , and creating it has helped me reconnect with my passion and who I am as an artist. This is also my first EP and I can’t wait to release it to the world in December!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into music because it became my outlet. It was my way of releasing everything I was going through and expressing emotions I couldn’t always say out loud. When I first started, I was just writing songs and posting little videos of myself rapping over instrumentals on Instagram. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just a hobby it was something I was truly passionate about and something I wanted to take seriously.
What really sets me apart is that I don’t make music to fit in or sound like everyone else. I don’t chase trends or do it just for fame or money. I make music because I love it, it’s a part of who I am. Every song I create comes from a real place and tells a piece of my story.
I’m really proud of myself for staying consistent and believing in my journey, even when things get tough. I want people to know that my music is real and comes from the heart. When you listen to my songs, I want you to feel something, whether it’s comfort, inspiration, or just knowing you’re not alone in what you’re going through.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A moment that really showed my resilience was when I went through a difficult situation in my life. It hit me hard emotionally, and for a while, I felt lost and uninspired in myself . But instead of letting that pain break me, I decided to turn it into something meaningful. I started writing more, turning my pain into a purpose.
Working on my music helped me heal and reminded me of my strength. It showed me that even in my lowest moments, I can turn pain into something beautiful. That experience made me realize how powerful music can be, not just for me, but for anyone who listens and relates.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think society can better support artists and creatives by truly seeing the value in what we do. For me, music has always been more than just songs it’s a way to express emotions, tell stories, and connect with people who feel the same way . Sometimes it feels like as an artist we aren’t being heard or seen, especially when still trying to build a name for yourself.
I believe more support could come from giving independent artists real opportunities like performance spaces, exposure, and resources to grow. Simple things like sharing someone’s work or showing genuine love, can mean so much.
When artists feel seen and supported, it pushes us to keep creating and to believe in ourselves even more that’s how a strong creative community grows by uplifting each other and giving every artist a chance to be heard.
