Today we’d like to introduce you to Selena Francois.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Post-it Note flip-book animation; that’s where I started. My mom drew an animated eye opening and closing on a yellow stack of post-its and I was hooked ever since! As I got older I realized I shared the same wonder with Henry Selick’s Nightmare Before Christmas.
I’ve had to pivot careers for a stable work-life balance and pay for necessities at times which I once thought would supplement my growth as an artist, but I was often too tired after work…it’s incredibly draining not working in your purpose.
Currently I am in the middle of another pivot and looking forward to where that takes me, so stay on the lookout for new work!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
*Insert Rich Laugh and a Knee Slap Here* It gets smoother as you learn how to navigate the waters of life, and that only comes with personal experience and learning from fellow travelers along the way. Think of some of your own struggles…we’re all worrying about something similar if not exact so finding a way to enjoy life through it all is what counts.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make art and dammit, I refuse to let another year go by with my talents on the back burner! I specialize in digital and traditional media typically, and I enjoy working with claymation from time to time. I’m known for being an optimist and my Bumblebee’s favorite clown! (Love ya honey!) I’m not very proud of anything in particular…I have a few select pieces I remember fondly because of the state of mind I was in while creating it or seeing someone’s face light up in that peculiar way when they’ve seen something of my work they resonate with, I’m just enjoying the ride. What sets me apart……don’t tell me if you find out!
Any big plans?
Making more art! Stay tuned!
