Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Selena Clarke. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Selena, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
From the age of 6, the path of an artist called out to me, guided by my mother and grandmother. The spark was further ignited as I immersed myself in design channels and anime. Throughout my childhood years, my older sister Julisa recognized and wholeheartedly supported my passion for art. Her encouragement manifested in thoughtful gestures like providing art supplies, for me from middle school through high school. This early support fueled my artistic journey but also instilled in me the belief that creativity is a powerful force meant to be embraced and nurtured.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Selena Clarke, CEO of MajestyIllustration, a company that supports the visual development of brands that are first emerging into the world and looking for an Illustrator to help bring their brand to life.
I strive to inspire, create, and discover new ways to make art diverse, impactful, and timeless.
This direction of utilizing my talents and abilities to help the general public is because, as a child, I sensed a purpose placed on my heart by God to help others. My passion became more meaningful when I discovered the joy of crafting work specifically for individuals. Witnessing the smiles and genuine happiness when people see the final illustration is a reward beyond measure.
In these moments, I find fulfillment, realizing that my art has the power to create beauty and bring joy and connection to those it touches.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My journey in finding my true passion in art has been a series of unexpected turns, each one shaping me into the artist I am today. The pivotal moment came during high school when the anticipation of college loomed. Simultaneously attending a trade school for fashion and interior design, I was convinced that I wanted to be a fashion designer. However, upon completing the two-year course, I realized that I desired to pursue a broader path in general art, not confined to the realm of fashion. In a hurry, I had to swiftly transform my portfolio, shifting its focus from fashion illustrations to art styles across different mediums.
With acceptance into the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, I believed that the changes were behind me. Little did I know, another shift awaited. Starting as a fine arts major as a freshman, I soon found myself feeling somewhat restricted in my studies. It was in my sophomore year that I made the pivotal decision to switch to Illustration.
This decision marked the beginning of my connection with digital drawing. The year was transformative—I not only found my true calling in art but also embarked on the journey of perfecting it.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most fulfilling aspect of being an artist extends far beyond the act of creation itself. It lies in the incredible journey of helping and inspiring others to unlock their own creative potential. Exploring how art can evoke a spectrum of emotions—positive, negative, horrified, or amused—has been a fascinating revelation.
Witnessing the profound impact a piece of art can have on an individual, sparking emotions, conversations, and stories, is nothing short of phenomenal. Whether it produces a positive reaction or a more challenging one, the mere fact that my art can stir someone to express themselves feels like a profound mission accomplished.
Art, at its core, is meant to evoke a response, to make you feel something. Knowing that I can be a catalyst for self-expression through my art is a reward in itself.
Each time I see someone’s genuine expression in response to my work, I’m reminded of the power art holds to connect, inspire, and provoke. It’s in these moments that the true magic of being an artist unfolds.
