Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Seiren. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Seiren, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I distinctively remember as a young girl my mother asking me if singing was something I seriously wanted to pursue. At the time I was seeing the effects the music industry had on specific female singers and how it had destroyed their lives. Their unflattering photos were plastered on magazines with titles that implied they had gone insane, or were in rehabs for various drug addictions or bulimia. I said something along the lines of “I don’t want to become like that.” Though in the deepest part of my soul I wanted to sing.
At the time I was involved with just about every extracurricular activity involving music and singing. I shined in talent shows, and went to all county and state choir concerts, and perfomed solos. I started writing my own lyrics and getting a band together. It was clear I was talented and could go somewhere if I applied myself.
I always loved music and knew it was an important part of my life. It was my meditation, my coping mechanism, my freedom of expression, and my being.
One of the major contributing factors in my decision to not pursue a career in music as a teen stemmed from a specific conversation I had after attending a friend’s musical. I remember singing confidently in the car with her and asking afterwards if I sounded like the artst. I was proud of myself for hitting every note perfectly and wanted reassurance. Before she could respond her father said harshly “Why do you want to sound like her so badly? Why don’t you want to sound like you?” I fell silent after that because he was right. You spend so much time learning notes in choir and learning to sing other people’s songs but you rarely spend time trying to learn your own voice. That’s when I realized you can be a great singer but not a great artist. Real artists require discipline, confidence, a voice, and a vision. I was excellent at being like everyone else, but not at being myself.
So if I had to go back in time and decide weather or not to start my music career earlier, my decision would still be not to pursue it at that time. I was too immature and was only just starting to write meaningful lyrics and develop my voice.
I took a long break from music after college and became distracted with life but I kept coming back to it. Now as an adult I’ve written an entire album of lyrics and melodies that encompass my beliefs and passions in life. I’ve found my voice and my vision.

Seiren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been working on two singles over the last few months and have finally distributed them onto platforms with a release date of June 28th, 2024. This is one of my greatest accomplishments.
I encountered so many hurdles trying to produce my music. I had a lot of people flake out on me, steal from me, and try to exploit me. I was fortunate enough to meet some amazing female musicians through various friends and social media. These ladies encouraged me to produce my music and follow my passion. They inspired me with their own dedication to their creative works and showed me that it can be done, even in your 30’s. Without their support in helping me find committed people, my music would still be on the back burner, if not, non existent.
How comical that my music is centered around female empowerment and feminism, and women helped me spearhead the whole thing.
For those that dont know me, one of my singles being released this month, “Hell Hath No Fury,” is a direct comment on infringement of women’s rights. It’s explicit and vulgar, but also raw and real. I don’t sugarcoat anything, I say it how it is. As an advocate for women’s rights and equality, I think it’s important to be a voice for all the women and girls suffering the consequences of the loss of autonomy and the right to lifesaving interventions.
I’ve developed a small merch line I’m looking toexpand on, that donates $2 per item towards supporting women’s health centers. I’m hoping this single helps unify women in a common goal to preserve our freedoms and fight back.
My other single, “Day Tripping,” is non political and for my love of music. It’s a love song I’ve written for my significant other, that talks about getting out and remembering to enjoy life. I really feel that we have wrapped ourselves up in this fabricated system where we have become mundane and have forgotten that there is an amazing world out there ready to be seen and explored. We are not our bills, our chores, or our jobs. Even just a day trip somewhere inexpensive, to get out and feel alive and connected to the world can bring us back to ourselves.
I think both singles, though different encompass the idea of freedom and the right to the pursuit of happiness. I truly believe that everyone deserves the right to live a life that supports their basic needs, and gives them freedom to be creative, explore, and experience life to its fullest. That looks different for every individual, but it starts with basic support, education, equality, and rights.
Ska and reggae music has a long history of advocating for freedoms and creating a place for like minded individuals to collectively protest and stand up for what they believe in. I fell in love with this genre as a teen. I love the gritty angsty sound of bands like Sublime or No Doubt, but also the peaceful voice of Bob Marley advocating for a better quality of life and freedom.
I’ve utilized this genre to express my ideals, and emphasize the importance of voice and unity through music. I belive it gives my music qualities of truth and passion, with a bit of an edge.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Though my audience is still unimpressive, it is growing daily now thanks to the help of one of my friends who happens to understand the algorithm and is a successful book entrepreneur herself. She’s helped me develop a plan that’s boosted my views and helped me reach more people.
The first thing I will say is it’s not easy. Everyday you have to be active. This requires planned posts, ten or more stories daily, and engaging with artists you aspire to or are in your realm. It’s a lot of work and often goes unnoticed. Your success in the social media world depends directly on your work ethic and consistency. I know a lot of artists that are very talented and could easily be famous but they don’t market themselves. They play a lot of live shows and depend on that. There’s nothing wrong with that, you need to engage with your audience in person too, but you’re ultimately limiting yourself to your surroundings, when you could be reaching people across the country or even the world. It’s important to market yourself, build your brand and image, as well as get out there and perform.
There are a lot of tools that help you with marketing now. I use CANVA to make reels, fliers, and to create content for my page. It’s honestly my go to. CANVA costs money but believe me, it’s much cheaper to do it yourself than to pay someone to do it for you. I’m not familiar with other editing apps at this time but there are plenty of others that may work better for you. The most important thing is creating your brand and vision and consistently engaging with your account and peers.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a singer and songwriter is being able to engage with people and connect on another level. Music is an emotional and powerful experience. It’s not just notes on an instrument. It’s a feeling. It’s poetry. It’s expression, and if you have something important to say that’s relatable, and real, it’s unifying. In that unity people find comfort and truth, and community.
