We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sehar Tejani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sehar, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is a subjective and multifaceted concept, and different people may define it in various ways. For me success means that I have done everything in my power to be where I am and have met my goals not only professionally but also personally. A willingness to work hard every step of the way. Success doesn’t come overtime, it comes by taking small steps to reach your goal. The successful embody adaptability, navigating the dynamic currents of life with flexibility and grace. Cultivating a positive mindset and learning from failures contribute to the tenacity needed for long-term success. It’s important to note that success is a personal journey, and what works for one person may not work for another. Moreover, success is not always measured by external factors such as wealth or fame; it can also involve personal growth, fulfillment, and making a positive impact on others and the world.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started Bliss Wedding Planners about 8 years ago with a small vision and absolutely no clients. At that time I was working in corporate and had a friend and mentor whom I was talking to about an idea to just explore event planning. I had always planned small events for friends and family over the years. That year I was also helping my cousin plan her wedding so it really gave me hands on experience as to what it takes, or so I thought. It wasn’t until about a year since I decided to pursue event planning as a side hustle, that we had out first client. A friend of mine was planning her wedding, I told her I started wedding planning as a side hustle and if she gave me the opportunity, I would love to help her plan her wedding. I didn’t know much about the industry but I definitely learned a lot planning her wedding. Asked some of my friends and family to help me out during the events and it was chaos but turned out being amazing. The years following have had it’s ups and downs but we wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for all of it. We are considered chaos coordinators for a reason!
Each wedding for us is special and unique in its own way. We cherish each one of our clients and want to make sure their special day is an stress free and perfect as possible.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of Mouth is where it all begins for us. When we plan a wedding and our clients see it and love it they recommend us. When friends and families of the clients attend wedding events, we are always asked for our social, contacts, etc and have had almost every client through a client recommendation.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Wedding Planning was my side hustle for almost 7 years before it became a full time business for me. I was working in corporate at a 9-5, just like everyone and dreading it. My goal was always to work super hard at my side hustle to make it a full time career for me. After years and years of pretty much working a full time job and planning weddings on the weekends without a break at all, it was time to go all in. I remember there were months where I didn’t have a single free weekend but I saw the end goal and here I am. It took a lot of hard work, resilience, sleepless nights and weekends and giving up on a lot of “fun” things to do with friends and family to be where I am today. I wouldn’t have done it without the support of my loved ones and everything was worth it in the end.
