We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Seeking Therapy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Seeking, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Every song we write is meaningful in their own way. Our first single “Come with fire” and the subsequent music video release was extremely meaningful to us as it got our music and our faces out to the masses and has since created some buzz for us in terms of booking gigs and online content engagement.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a three-piece rock band based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that plays all original music. Our sound has been described as modern grunge meets Black Sabbath. The three members of the band, Adam, Richard and Kyle grew up in near proximity to each other in Western Pennsylvania where they honed their individual musicianship through playing with various local bands, concert bands, and theater productions. While knowing each other, the three never created together. Cut to fifteen years later, Adam & Kyle had both found themselves living in Pittsburgh while Richard lived an hour north. Through the struggles of adulthood and family loss, Adam began to express himself through song writing that spilled onto the pages as he dealt with turbulent times. Being familiar with the fact that Kyle lived in his current city, Adam called Kyle to ask if he wanted to get together to work out some of his music together. Kyle and Adam then went on a marathon of song writing and style exploration. After spending almost two years of writing, the two then rang up Adam’s childhood friend Richard to engage him as their percussionist. Richard enthusiastically joined the band and the three got right to work, releasing their first single “Come with fire” within the first month of Richard’s tenure. The single (found on all streaming platforms) and subsequent music video released on Youtube gaining the band local attention and the three started playing out at local shows. This leads us to today, where the three are in the process of recording their first EP recording which is due to release in early fall of 2024. Seeking Therapy’s music is a combination of many musical genres with lyrics that delve into the shared human emotions of grief, addiction, love, parenthood, self deprecation, and finding ones self and self acceptance.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is self expression. Using the medium to express what is in your soul in ways that transcend beyond words alone,
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can best support artists by taking the time to consume the art around them. We are surrounded by art daily, more than ever before in human history. Slowing down and taking it all in is a challenge for most, but by making the attempt to slow down and embrace the art around you, be it audible or visual, you may be surprised as to how many talented people are out there, and you may just find yourself reflecting on your own life within that art.
