We recently connected with Seek One and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Seek, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Yes, i’ve been a full time artist for about 7 years now and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I was always a creative person growing up between being a photographer and experimenting with graffiti. I went to school for business and once i finished my undergraduate degree i had a 9-5 job, but still had a love for art that i couldn’t shake, I started experimenting in creating fine art pieces and blending my experiences with graffiti and photography.
After creating a few bodies of work hosting my first few shows I started to get recognition from celebrities and athletes to collect my work. At that point i knew i had something special and decided to quit my job and take it full time.
I think i timed everything perfectly to be honest, i was able to support myself with my 9-5 job while i got my art career off the ground and then was able to transition solely based on art income.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the art world through my passion for creating different mediums of art since a young age. Today, i believe my work offers a innovative take on traditional street and contemporary art. Something people aren’t used to seeing but tend to enjoy once they do.
Im most proud of the end product and seeing where it winds up. Art is eternal and it means alot to me when i see something I’ve created installed in someones home.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to continue to create innovative art. I never went to art school and am completely self taught.
I think this has given me an advantage because i am able to create based on my own experiences and thoughts, not traditional training. This helps me to create art that most people aren’t used to. Im lucky because alot of people have gravitated towards my art and collected it because of this reason.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I don’t have a specific story but i can tell you there are alot of ups and downs in the art world. Especially as a full time artist. You will be tested and rewarded but at the end of the day the important thing is that you stick with it and stay innovative. People always recognize authenticity and as long as you stay true to your own style you can never fail. I’ve been through alot in my career and have continued to push forward regardless of any setbacks.
