We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sedric Miller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sedric below.
Hi Sedric, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
Creating financial independence and business success requires a different mental approach to developing successful solutions. Entrepreneurship and ultimately business ownership requires a combination of heart, smarts, guts, and luck! The education system currently, in essence, is designed to create a capable labor force. There has been a shift lately toward culturally responsive education and a focus on STEM, and I believe this will be extremely beneficial. Literacy instruction nationwide has also undergone a significant amount of intentional overhaul, and these changes give more people access to information. With information and the appropriate application of it, opportunities for societal growth become unlimited. I initially pursued Engineering when I finished high school. The most beneficial tools I took advantage of in high school were the college concurrent enrollment programs. Coupled with the University of Colorado Denver’s pre-collegiate program, I was exposed at a young age to the way communities of higher thinking operate. Increasing student’s exposure to these kind of environments and challenging them with rigorous learning experiences that foster the highest depths of knowledge is the key. I am a firm believer that the future is now and its our responsibility to seize the moment to create the best outcomes. I have recently started teaching at a local elementary school in addition to my company’s management. I look forward to creating experiences that catalyze these changes around the true purpose of our education system.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a multifaceted entrepreneur with a passion for problem-solving and innovation. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills across various fields, from technology and education to business and media production. My journey began as a computer science teacher, where I nurtured a love for technology and its potential to empower others. Inspired by this passion, I founded Impulse Distribution, a company dedicated to helping individuals and businesses thrive on the Amazon marketplace. We offer a range of services, including product development, branding, and marketing strategies. My goal is to empower entrepreneurs to achieve their goals by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed. What sets me apart is my ability to see opportunities where others may see obstacles. I approach challenges with a positive mindset and a determination to find solutions. Whether I’m helping a client launch a new product or creating engaging content, I’m driven by a desire to make a positive impact. Beyond my entrepreneurial endeavors, I’m also a dedicated educator and a creative soul. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with the next generation and exploring my passions through music production and snowboarding.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
Impulse Distribution strictly operates on the Amazon marketplace. When Impulse Distribution was established, our Ecommerce participation began with drop-shipping through Shoppify. We used the service Oberlo to connect customers to trending Tik Tok products being sold by merchants on Alibaba. This business model had several issues however. Drop-shipping leaves too much room for a bad customer experience. Long shipping times, a lack of product control, and an inability to provide effective customer service pressed us to pivot. Ultimately, Impulse Distribution moved into the private label business model on Amazon. We filed for our brands trademark Impulse Desires® and began working directly with manufacturers of personal electronic accessories. Once inventory had been created and received, it was time to create our product listings and an advertising plan. We encourage our clients to take advantage of Amazon’s FBA program to reduce their customer service, shipping, storage, and FBM costs. Amazon is the most popular place where people are shopping currently! They have a global market that you can relatively easily take advantage of and that means growth potentiaL for your products. However, Amazon is somewhat of a beast due to its enormity. Working with the seller central help associates can be a circuitous and tedious process that often does not result in a solution. Products can be restricted because of missing documents from the manufacturer, listings can have weird glitches, and much more. There is a significant learning curve on the seller side of Amazon. It takes time to understand their systems and regulations. It is best to be the owner of the brand you are attempting to sell on Amazon. The days of third party resale are coming to an end. It is very difficult to get “ungated” for other brands. It is best to have your own registered brand and to sell your products through Amazon’s Transparency program to avoid counterfeit allegations and mix ups. At Impulse Distribution we are dedicated to helping our clients effectively establish and operate their Amazon stores using what we’ve learned from our successes!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is a commonly misunderstood aspect of emerging businesses. When Impulse Distribution first opened one of our Ecommerce services was Social Media Marketing. The keys to outbound marketing are strategy and consistency! Today social media makes it incredibly easy to acquire exposure, but people often attempt to grow their business social media presence from their personal social media network. Your business social media should reflect your brand identity and target your dream customers. You absolutely must structure sponsored advertisement campaigns and continuously adjust them. You should create both value and harvest post, but maintain a healthy balance. Value posts should help your customers identify with your product or service. A value post’s purpose is to help inform and familiarize people with your products and services. Harvest posts should be filled with calls to action. These are post where you highlight special opportunities to your dream customer, if they get on board now. It’s not necessary to post every day, and it is easy on most platforms to schedule content in advance. You can choose what content you want promoted and customize parameters for A/B testing. It is important to constantly monitor sponsored social media’s engagement design effectiveness and make changes as necessary to consistently improve. Social media business content should always be posed through a business account or page. Regarding content, it is best to create a library to have a variety of artifacts to work with. To create this library, regularly take photos and videos of your products and services in action. Again the key here is consistency! Once you establish a system that works for you, you can document it in your standard operating protocols(SOP) and ultimately hire someone to take over the responsibility. With supervision of course! Many entrepreneurs have expressed anxiety toward social media and their business. The key is to remember that you are using social media as a tool for outbound marketing, it is not the totality of your business!
