We were lucky to catch up with Sedona Feretto recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sedona, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
As an artist, I am most happy when I’m creating. Whether it’s writing a screenplay, being on set, or getting into a fun cosplay, my art is the thing that drives me forward. As an actress & screenwriter, I am in one of the hardest industries in the world. There are moments, days, and even weeks where I wonder if I am ever going to “make it”. I’ve been pursuing my passion for over a decade now, and there have been a lot of highs/lows that have made me question if I’m on the right path. The only thing that has never changed for me – is that I know that there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing with my life.
There’s an indescribable thrill when you’re on set and everything around you seems to fade as you go “into the moment” with your character and costars. The satisfaction of finishing that first draft of a new script despite knowing that you’re going to have to go back and rewrite SO much of it. Seeing the comments from fellow nerds about the cosplay you’ve spent so much time on and building a community from it. I could never be satisfied in life with a regular job. So, even if it takes another 10 years for me to make it big, I won’t give up on my dreams. I can’t.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an actress, writer, cosplayer, makeup fanatic, and a hobbit at heart. I’ve been pursuing acting and screenwriting for over a decade now and have a variety of credits under my belt. I cosplay my favorite characters on TikTok/Instagram. Mostly, I a big weird creative human who loves makeup, film, books, and fantasy way too much.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In the age of Social Media, SHARE, LIKE, COMMENT! If you have a friend/family/loved one or even just someone you see on social media that’s starting a new business, putting out their first book, showcasing their first acting/writing skit, Reel, or TikTok; do not underestimate the power of just sharing it. I see people post their favorite celebrities and artists’ new things all the time. Yet, I’ve experienced and seen people completely ignore their friends who are authors/creators/artists and putting out content/creations for the first time. You don’t have to spend money to be supportive of an artist. Interacting and sharing their work is a way you can help without opening your wallet. However, if you want to be financially supportive of creatives, buy their work or check out their Amazon wish list (a lot of times its full of equipment), some creatives even have Patreons or Ko-Fi’s where it’s just $1 a month to support them and their art.
Also, don’t be a troll. Having the courage to pursue your passion is something so many people never do in their life. Just because you aren’t brave enough to go for it – don’t be a jerk to someone who is.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As corny as it sounds, this is the truth; if I move someone with my words or my acting it’s everything to me. I’ve been through every feeling with art, whether it’s from laughing until my cheeks hurt from a film or snot crying into a great book. If the art I create truly invokes emotion in someone, every “no” will continue to be worth it.
