We recently connected with Sebastien Foucan and have shared our conversation below.
Sebastien, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks i took is to move from France to UK with my family not knowing what the future hold for me.
I knew in France my perspective were limited and i was dying artistcally.
So i took a leap of faith to move.
Both my wife and i didn’t have jobs.
I thought it will take me a year or two to sorted things out.
it took me 10 years.
Sebastien, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an artist born in France and grew up in the suburb of Paris. Since I was young the school system didn’t fit to me and really early I was put aside. That led me to find my own path and this is where my passion for drawing and to look at the world in a different way started. Searching for people who were on the same trajectory I found my friends which with we started to play outside and recreating our own adventure. We created the now known global phenomenon called “Parkour”.
Fast forward as we grew up we’ve been on TV, Advert, Show, Movies.
But this was not enough for me, I felt that I wanted to share and help those who were in the same difficult situation i faced In my early development. I created my academy and became a public speaker where I share my philosophy and my way of thinking to help people and companies to improve in their life journey by overcoming obstacles such as Fear of failure, doubt, fear of taking risks, etc that can prevent them to become the better version of themselves.
What set me apart is that I’m a really balanced individual with a mindset of an artist as i draw, paint and think art all the time, I’m a really fit person who have a lifestyle of movement and care of holistic, well being and I am a keynote speaker for about 15 years and an entrepreneur with my Foucan Academy where we teach physical activity to children.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The biggest reward is that it opens your mind and gives you endless possibilities.
It gives you the power of visualisation and projection with freedom, you see the world as a canvas.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I believe everyone can create but many believe they cannot and they have been restricted at an early age. My journey led me to understand that we can create anything we want, the only things in our way is our own doubts and disbelief as well as the societal barriers we have created.
Often an artist is struggling between making a living and producing his art.
I had the battle being true to my art and my soul and not betrayed it for the financial pursuit.
It is an incredible struggle as to creates is vital for the artist that I am but to pay the bill and provides to your family is essential and crucial.
