We were lucky to catch up with Sebastian Muñoz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sebastian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.

Don Deeds is not only the best boss I ever had, but the best friend anyone could ever be gifted in life. Through the ups and downs of life, he has always stood by me and supported me for well over 27 years. I’ve learned so much from him both professionally and personally. I am who I am today in great part due to him. Everyone would be lucky to have a Don Deeds in their life.

Sebastian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m a Mexican born theater and film actor, producer and director. I’m also the founder and Producing Artistic Director of Force of Nature Productions in Burbank, CA. I’ve been a staple of the North Hollywood Theatre Arts District where I’ve directed and performed in dozens of shows since 2010. In 2015, I directed the original play, “GRACE NOTE,” for the OC-Centric Play Festival at Chapman University in Orange, CA, which went on to win OC Magazine’s “BEST NEW PLAY of 2015.” Several of the short films I’ve directed have toured film festivals across the U.S. I’ve been a Magician member at the Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle for 10 years where I’ve been part of the outreach committee team. My passion stems from working with artists from all walks of life and sharing their love for their craft to create new and original works while giving back to my local community.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My goal is to inspire and nurture as many artists as I’m able to while entertaining audiences and enriching the community around me.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Nothing is every easy otherwise it wouldn’t be worth it, right? I love acting and I love directing, but in order to create that meant I had to learn how to be an artistic director and producer and everything that comes with it. There really isn’t an instruction manual for this. A lot of trial and error. A lot. However, the joy and excitement from the team after opening night coupled with the cheering from the crowd makes it all worthwhile. A path worth following.

Also, we’ve had to bounce around a bit these last few years with so many theatres closing down. However, we were fortunate to have found The Brickhouse Theatre and with the support of Write Act Repertory, we now have a place we can call home. Bree Pavey at LOFT Ensemble and Teri Richardson at Generation DCD have also been incredibly supportive of us and our endeavors and for that I’m eternally grateful.
