We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sebastián Mondéjar Jover a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sebastián, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I began using the software at the age of 17. In hindsight, I would advise my younger self to approach each step of the process with the same level of professionalism. At that time I would put a lot of care into sketching and storyboarding, and then go directly to creating the scenes and compositing. But in the end, you have to learn from everything. That was just my way.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always loved cartoons, videos, and animation. As a child, I wanted to become a comic artist. Then, I moved on to making movies with my old camera. As soon as I studied design in high school and continued drawing, I started envisioning myself as an animation artist.
So, that is basically what I ended up doing; I design, illustrate, and produce animations from scratch. For any field, any purpose, though I am currently focusing my work on advertising.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Sharing local art, supporting small galleries, and being aware of the importance of public space; while keeping the idea of art as a way to observe or perform, something to share anywhere, anytime. I also think that while everyone knows marketing as a cultural thing nowadays, it’s not the same with art, and some art in the digital field.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think it’s like a form of therapy. It is a really difficult activity, but it really helps you put a lot of things together.
