Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sebastian Laborde. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sebastian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea behind L.E.G. Entertainment was to provide a 3-in-1 package that would eliminate everyday worries of hiring vendors for special events. Our company provides world class mixology, high tech and upbeat DJing, as well as timeless photography that captures the most memorable moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.
After doing so many events, I realized that having this package deal would relieve the host from the headache of keeping in touch with so many vendors at one time, minimize communication, and execute a successful event much faster with less hassle thus making it much more affordable.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up I always was involved in music and had a remarkable sense of creativity, which led me to be classically trained to play piano and participate in various recitals. As I got older, my music and sense of creativity evolved into me learning how to produce music and later become an award winning DJ. I competed in online competitions and was a 3x champion on Wavo which landed me main stage gigs at the Euphoria Music Festival in Texas, Ultra Music Festival in Miami, and Create Nightclub in Los Angeles.
Simultaneously, I was making my main source of income working restaurant jobs as a mixologist, create amazing cocktails for guests. This as well, landed me major opportunities to work and compete alongside some of the worlds best creative bartenders, finishing in the semi-finals of the Don Julio Classic, the Tanteo Tequila Stand Off Competition, and the Italicus Competition. After a decade of hard work, I started to gain popularity and was being booked rapidly to do weddings, corporate events, and social gatherings, from then, I decided to start my own entertainment company in which I provide music, mixology, and recently added photography for special events.
How did you build your audience on social media?
A solid way I built my audience on social media was by doing online competitions. This gave me the liberty to use my creativity to produce a great product and market myself to individuals by reaching out to them and convincing them to support my journey. The approach was professional and straight to the point, my positive attitude and excitement allowed this form of communication to flow naturally which elevated my chances and popularity, while building a concrete following.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that every dream starts with an idea, but unless you put emotion and energy into that idea, that idea is just a dream. In order to succeed at what you want in life, you HAVE to do the ground work yourself, no one will ever do it for you. This is way persistence, well practiced communication, and effort comes into play.
So many times I felt like giving up on this dream because of the competition that was out there, you are not the only one with this idea, and others can and will do it much better. For that reason, you need to keep going and driving to become better than yesterday while chasing the leader you want to be tomorrow.
Countless night I would question if this is even worth risking, jobs I felt like leaving from because I wasn’t progressing in the direction I wanted to, hitting rock bottom multiple times just to get back up and start over, but it was my mindset and heart that kept telling me that every single bump in the road was redirecting me to be the successful entrepreneur I am today.
