Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sebastian La Rosa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sebastian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
School should be a renaissance beacon for creativity. A celebration of knowledge that is comprehensively absorbed, instead of what we commonly see today which is strictly memorization to pass exams. From elementary to university, there is a lot of emphasis on fast-learning to meet scholastic or semester deadlines. How much information is actually retained at the end of each term? Practicing with hands-on scenarios in the real world is still the best teacher for the human experience. Society can benefit from more academic institutions focusing on student’s skills and passions to prepare them for a prosperous future. Beyond careers and money, an individual must feel fulfilled in their life. Knowing that the work they do has purpose can definitely become a source of happiness, and at the same time it’s important to realize that they will always be more than just a job title.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Sebastian. I am 22 years old, and I graduated with my BBA from Florida Atlantic University this summer. I am the founder of Wizard Football Club, ‘wizardfc’: a multi-media company built for a vibrant online football community that promotes soccer news, art, and merchandise through various digital and physical mediums. We have recently undergone a massive rebrand into becoming a media company instead of just focusing on selling merchandise, and we’ve prepared our platform to bring the 2022 FIFA World Cup to life in our own unique way. Behind the curtain I am a one-man army. I created every aspect of this company up to its smallest detail. I dedicate countless hours to the club every single day and I’m loving every second of it. It can be very challenging to manage so many tasks with deadlines and the constant need for content creation, but it is more than worth it in the end. My goal is to keep scaling the business and reach a point where I can hire a team to run the club beside me. I’ve built the website myself and written every article to this date. I’m also the social media manager and I create every story, post, and video which could take ages sometimes. Finally, I’m the one who designed every single logo and all of the merch we sell. But none of this would matter at all if it weren’t for the people who believe in this club as much as I do. Through our online presence and overall social media engagement, we have built a strong football community that thrives on sharing stories and art together, which at the end of the day is my only purpose here: to just have fun with it. Work hard, everything else will fall into place. But you must work hard. Success is only possible by building disciplined habits, so I do what I can to show up everyday no matter what.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love this question. My top three books that I highly recommend to everyone no matter where they are in life would be: ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear, ‘The Daily Stoic’ by Ryan Holiday, and ‘Principles’ by Ray Dalio. Stoicism is a very important life skill that I meticulously practice everyday, and I have learned to develop a disciplined lifestyle of critical thinking that I apply to my managerial and entrepreneurial philosophy. Having a stoic resolve to life’s challenges begins with what you allow yourself to become vulnerable to. Life can be stressful and confusing at times, but you must always strive to be the calmest person in any room to allow yourself to solve problems with logical reasoning that is completely separated from an emotional response. These books teach you to take some time to reflect, and that you are in complete control of your own peace.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Growing on social media is both easy and hard. I’ve gotten over 100,000 views on complete accident before, and I have also gotten less than 1,000 views on something I worked very hard on creating. If you want to grow your business on social media, you will need to learn the algorithms for every platform you are using, and you will need to be consistent in this aspect because algorithms and trends are constantly changing. I have a post schedule that is already filled for the next two months, in which there will never be a day that my account doesn’t post at least one story, post, or video. Be organized, and make interactive content that will help your overall social media presence grow. Finally, I would highly emphasis that while quantity of content is important, your overall content quality will be what gets people to stick around for the long-term. Wizard Football Club branched out past my friends and local community in South Florida and began connecting and networking with people all over the country, and then with growing pockets of people in Canada and England. Don’t get discouraged and just keep trying stuff out until you find your stride.
