Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sebastian Brewer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sebastian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Growing up, I was very inspired to help others. I wanted to be a superhero, really. This was all because of Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Spider-man. After trying out theater, and figuring out that I love it, I realized that I could use movies and shows as a way of inspiring others to be better people, just as I had wanted. After a showing of the musical, Into the Woods, that I was lucky to be a part of, I went to see my family and friends who came to see the show. Before making my way through the crowding audience, a mother stopped me. She politely asked for me to take a picture with her son, who was quite timid. After the photo, though, he started talking about my role and just how much he adored the show. He had this passion in his voice that I could tell was the start of some inspiration. That honestly made me feel like I did my job as an actor and I inspired someone. I haven’t seen this kid since, but I hope to on the big screen some day.

Sebastian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started acting in the fourth grade at my elementary school. There, I preformed in the school’s musical and the Morning Announcements that played throughout the school, each morning. These first experiences made me realize I loved theater. I owe it all to my parents really, they gave me a great start by searching for opportunities for me. Since the fourth grade I have been working hard to balance school, sports and acting. I’ve acted on stage throughout school, in community theater, with professional theater organizations and recently began transitioning into acting on film. I am honored to have been able to have worked with Theatre Under The Stars, Keotic Visuals, Elmore Vision, and others. My favorite part about my journey so far has to be the amazing friends I have made along the way. Working along side other aspiring creatives has given me the opportunity to form bonds with amazing people. Something special that I bring to any project that I’m involved with is positive energy, a strong work ethic and encouragement for everyone involved. Being excited about what you do and being able to really connect with the people you work helps create an enjoyable working environment. I am very passionate about my craft and my journey has been very fulfilling, not only because of the amazing people I’ve met, but also because of the art, itself. What I a most proud of is that I make my parents proud. Seeing that the people I idolize most, who have invested so much in me, show that they are proud to be my parents makes me feel like the king of the world. I owe it to them to give it my all and I am glad that I get to see it pay off. There is only two things that I want from acting. I want to be able to give back to all of the people who have pushed me to success and I want to inspire as many people as possible.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an actor is seeing others gain inspiration from your work to create their own art. When working with other actors, even though we usually have a script to go by, we will often feed off of each other’s energy. This can take scenes in unexpected directions and can sometimes create something greater than what was originally envisioned. I. believe that, especially in modern day society, there is a lot of exposure to all kinds of things. I feel that a difficult task, yet the most rewarding, of being an actor is being a good role model. While the mass majority of media can have negative influences, being a part of it gives me the chance to spread positive messages and to help inspire generations of “superheroes”.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I find art to be very personal. To make true art you need to be comfortable with who you are and how you feel. This brings about a certain amount of vulnerability that takes a lot of courage to be able to share deep emotions. Creatives can sometimes be seen as a little different or out there. This is because after confronting their vulnerability, they become more comfortable with who they are and how they wan’t to be.
