We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sebastian Berenguer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sebastian below.
Sebastian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of the most significant risks I’ve ever taken is the decision to leave my home country, family, and friends to pursue my dream in cinema by moving to Los Angeles. My name is Sebastián Berenguer, and I’m a film director, producer, and live event producer. Two years ago, I boldly chose to relocate to Los Angeles to pursue a master’s degree in filmmaking, enabling me to fulfill my dream of directing and producing a feature film. My life was on a steady trajectory. Over the past 15 years, I have built my reputation and career in large-scale live event production. I began my journey as a DJ, meticulously overseeing every aspect of events from inception to conclusion, initially with a small team. With determination, I worked my way up to curating and producing massive festivals attended by thousands of people. This was my life for the past 15 years.
Around five years ago, I embarked on another venture. I co-founded a company with the backing of the corporate entity affiliated with the event production company. This new endeavor became known as Latro Films, an audiovisual content production company. Starting from scratch, I utilized my background in audio engineering and the limited knowledge gained from video editing and recording classes. Through the assistance of online resources, such as YouTube, and diligent self-study, I established the company and expanded my skill set. Today, the company thrives in Mexico, creating commercials, advertisements, short films, and after-movies for festivals and concerts. We collaborate with prominent brands and talented artists, successfully carving out a niche in the Mexican market.
However, two years ago, I reached a pivotal juncture. We aspired to elevate our operations to the next level – film and television production. I needed something more substantial to gain expertise from the best in the field. This knowledge would catalyze me to turn my cinematic dream into a tangible reality.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I embarked on my journey as a DJ at 15, a passion sparked by my profound love for music. It was more than a desire; it was an aspiration to traverse the globe, orchestrating unforgettable parties and evoking the emotions unique to a DJ in clubs and celebrations. That indescribable feeling when you’re so engrossed in an event that time slips away, and suddenly, it’s time to depart.
As I continued along the DJ path, I began with intimate events, gradually expanding to weddings and larger venues like clubs, bars, restaurants, special events, and runways. However, upon approaching high school graduation, the pivotal moment arrived, demanding a decision on the trajectory of my life.
My initial foray involved enrolling in a course on electronic music production. Contrary to popular belief, being a renowned DJ is not just mixing great songs. It requires crafting your music giving it an identity to resonate with your audience. Six months on this path revealed that being a DJ could be a passionate hobby but not a lifelong dedication.
Subsequently, I charted a new course, pursuing a Bachelor’s in audio engineering. Over three intense years, my exploration of audio engineering unveiled the captivating world of cinema. This revelation led me to a job at Matatena Producciones, a renowned event production company, where I started from the ground up, assisting in every aspect.
Over the years, a fresh opportunity arose when the holding group of Matatena expressed interest in establishing a sound recording studio. I advocated for including video alongside audio in our studio, shaping what is now known as Latro Films.
For the past five years, I’ve been the founder and director of Latro Films. This company evolved from scratch to produce a spectrum of content, including institutional videos, event after-movies, and commercials.
Concurrently, my journey continued at Matatena, balancing roles as a producer of massive live events and a director/producer of commercials. The desire to elevate the company led to the decision to venture into television and film, propelling me to Los Angeles to pursue a Master’s in film, which I have now completed. Presently, I find myself immersed in the development and pre-production of my debut feature film, “No Loose Ends,” an action-packed endeavor.
This project is a testament to my dedication and ambition, aiming to create a captivating film and leave a lasting impact on the cinematic landscape. Challenges arise each day, underscoring the complexity of filmmaking. Yet, the initial hurdle lies in bringing the film to life.
Considering my passion for cinema, particularly in genres like action, suspense, and thrillers, I envision this film as an accessible, enjoyable experience for diverse audiences. The goal is to deliver a narrative that resonates without unnecessary complexity, allowing viewers to connect with the essence of our creative journey.
As we progress, I invite you to join us on social media, follow our journey, and, if inclined, contribute to this cinematic venture. With pride in the positive reception of our script, we anticipate commencing filming in 2024, aspiring for “No Loose Ends” to grace the screens and captivate audiences worldwide.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I’ve always maintained and will continue to do so, that there’s no greater reward than giving a person a fantastic emotion. Take, for instance, the days when I used to orchestrate events. Witnessing people arrive and behold the stage, the decor, the production—whatever comprised the event—for the first time, and the collective expression of awe, the “wow” moment, the flurry of cell phones emerging to capture the scene; those are the instances that make everything in the world worthwhile. The same sentiment extends to my current dedication to the world of cinema.
Crafting something, be it a small video or a film, that can elicit a cascade of emotions—what I describe as a train of emotions in people—is the ultimate gratification. It’s about prompting individuals to attend, immersing them in your project, and momentarily escaping their daily struggles. They can then focus on the narrative you’re unfolding, the message you wish to convey, and the emotions you aim to evoke. People will embrace it if you succeed in delivering a remarkable project and effectively communicate those emotions. When they do, it sparks something magical.
This is the most profound aspect of it all. It’s an intangible reward that neither money nor fame can confer. The unique response from people as they receive, process, and absorb the essence of what you’re imparting is genuinely extraordinary.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
In the present moment, my paramount mission revolves around bringing my project into the light of day – that metaphorical beacon at the tunnel’s end. This endeavor has consumed my efforts for over a year and a half, marking a profoundly exciting chapter representing my inaugural role as a director. It serves as the medium through which I aim to showcase, to a global audience, the culmination of my year-and-a-half-long endeavor and my commitment to persist until success is achieved.
This inherently captivating project is poised to seize attention and elicit enjoyment, inviting an understanding of the unwavering dedication and exhaustive effort invested. Crafting a film is no facile task; despite common misconceptions, it demands extensive time and is intertwined with an element of serendipity. Essentially, readiness is critical to unveiling the project to the right individual when the opportune moment materializes.
Consequently, throughout each day, constant preparedness is required – an observance of global and industry trends. The competitive landscape, rather than a hindrance, drives the quality of projects skyward annually, intensifying the challenge while magnifying the ensuing rewards. Thus, within my ongoing creative journey, I perceive this as the most formidable challenge, with the overarching mission and ultimate goal being the meticulous avoidance of any unresolved elements.
