We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Season Jacobs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Season, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
“waXon on Fuzz Off” is a clever twist on “wax on, wax off,” injecting humor and catchiness. It’s not just about applying and removing wax; our mission is crystal clear — it’s all about getting that Fuzz Off! We are located just outside of Dallas on I-35, a prominent highway. With a constant flow of daily commuters, our storefront is strategically positioned to capture the attention of the countless daily passersby. The aim? To have our name speak volumes, ensuring that everyone who glances our way instantly understands what we’re all about.
Season, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Season, and my journey in the beauty industry began when I enrolled in beauty college right after high school. My lifelong passion has always been to empower women, unveiling their beauty, both inner and outer. Little did I imagine, I would specialize in the art of Brazilian waxing! Witnessing the remarkable transformation of a shy, nervous guest into a strong, beautiful, and confident woman fills my heart with joy. I feel truly blessed and immensely grateful for the amazing individuals who support me, allowing me to live my best life!
What an incredible journey! Transitioning from a solopreneur to assembling a dream team comprising KK, Cece, Diamond, and Sanjuana has been a game-changer. With the infusion of new talent, we’ve expanded our services to cater to evolving needs. Exciting additions to our offerings include facials, lash lifts, lash and brow tints, as well as teeth whitening. Our commitment to providing a comprehensive beauty experience is reflected in these new services, ensuring top-notch care from our skilled and dedicated team.
At our establishment, we exclusively use soft wax, distinguishing ourselves from other businesses that typically opt for hard wax or sugar. Our choice is rooted in the belief that soft wax offers a gentler experience for the skin. We prioritize not just effective hair removal but also ensuring a soothing and comfortable process for our valued clients. Your well-being and comfort are at the forefront of our approach to beauty services.
Exciting news! We’ve expanded our offerings to include our very own skincare line!!! Among the highlights are our exceptional “waXon Buff Off” a mango seed butter sugar scrub and waXon Smooth Off an aloe-based serum specifically crafted to moisturize the skin, treat, and prevent ingrown hair. Elevating the post-waxing experience, these products are designed to enhance skin’s radiance and maintain its health. Discover the goodness of our exclusive skincare line, curated with care for beauty and well-being.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Manufacturing my own products is important because maintaining the results of skincare treatments is a collaborative effort. We believe in a partnership where 40% of the responsibility lies with us, ensuring top-notch service in the salon, and the remaining 60% is in the hands of our clients for at-home care. Opting for fragrance-free natural ingredient products aligns with our commitment to maintaining optimal results – ensuring smooth and healthy skin even for sensitive areas. This choice is strategic not only for post-waxing care but also to facilitate easier and more comfortable hair removal during subsequent sessions.
AIthough there are plenty of home made scrubs and serums, I know we have the right manufacturer. waXon Buff Off and waXon Smooth Off are made in a USA-based medical-grade facility. I learned this is significant because of the advanced, clinically proven ingredients, quality assurance, and strict regulartory guidelines. We breathe easy knowing each product is consistantly made with love.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love to read!!! Who knew? I made it a point to opt out of reading anything with “too many words” birthday cards, recipies or directions, even menus- just give me a kids menu. Once I read ” You are a Badass at making money” by Jen Sincero, this opened my eyes and helped me realize my money mindset needed a major shift! I decided at that moment to read at least 1 book a month. I then picked up the 5 AM club by Robin Sharma and realized that starting the day with purpose and intention maximize productivity. It wasn’t easy at first, this book encouraged me not only to exercise and drink more water, I found more time to achieve goals. Another great book is “Good to Great” by Jim Collins. This book explores why some companies make the leap from good to great while others don’t. Collins and his team conducted extensive research to identify commonalities among companies that achieved sustained success. The insights on leadership, disciplined thought, and action are invaluable for anyone in business management.
Insted of listening to music in the car, I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to audiobooks or podcasts Some of my favorite podcasts include: “School of Greatness” by Lewis Howes, He engages in in-depth conversations with successful individuals, “The Mindvalley Podcast” by Vishen Lakhiani- for mindfulness & personal growth, and “Impact Theory” by Tom Bilyeu or “Women of Impact” by his wife Lisa Bilyeu.
I feel engaging in reading and podcasts is a proactive and intentional strategy that “high performers” adopt to foster their ongoing development, draw inspiration, and enhance adaptability. This approach underscores their commitment to staying informed, continually learning, and staying ahead in their fields, reflecting the mindset of constant improvement and the pursuit of excellence.
