We were lucky to catch up with Sean Welch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sean, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
It was simple really.
The pandemic had hit, my wife was working long hours and I was often home with time to kill during the day. Seeing small businesses closing left and right, I thought what way could I make a positive impact rather than the negative I kept seeing across social channels. Having gained a relationship with food throughout my travels, I thought why not food “blogging”.
I came up with the name and ventured to the first restaurant. Texas BBQ has been on a steady climb and was such an easy group to support. I snapped my first picture and the words just flowed… I guess you could say from there the rest was history.

Sean, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For me this is really simple.
My main goal is to always support small businesses first. So often people exclaim they are a small business supporter for likes on social media and then are in line at every corporate owned establishment. I’m small business to a fault when it comes to food, which has bled into other areas as well.
Growing up with a rather dull palette, I made it a point to explore new foods when I found myself traveling during my time in the Marine Corps. Trying things for the first time and realizing what I had been missing out on was such an eye opening experience. I wish I would have started to the journey then, but, I didn’t. I let my ego stand in the way of that.
Fast forward to the pandemic and I thought, who cares the perception. Let’s just do it.
I think what sets me aside is that, truthfully it isn’t about the money. I care about the person, the story and showing everyone that some of the best food is made by your neighbor and not some huge corporation.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Eat Local. That’s it. I want people to continue to support small business and eat local.
Seeing my photos in articles or the happiness on their face when they see them continues to drive me.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think my steadfast position in the fact that I don’t ask for anything in return. Sure, do I do paid shoots? Yes. Do I expect that for everyone I meet, no.
If they need want good photos, then why not? I love food anyways and I love that I may be able to help grow their image and reach.
