We were lucky to catch up with Sean Russel Herman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sean Russel , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I was working as head narrative for a production company, making great projects with great people, but something was missing. It was always my dream to make films I was proud of, but the more success I found, the more time I spent in the office, on calls. I’m not an office guy, and this was taking a huge toll on me, and not to mention, my wife was pregnant with our first child. I had a lot of pressure on me, to provide for my family, all while getting ready to become a dad.
I looked at who I was becoming, the world I was building, and realized I didn’t want my son to grow up that way. I wanted him to grow up in the ocean, traveling the world, and being surrounded by health conscious individuals. People who focused on movement, and becoming the strongest versions of themselves, mentally and physically.
I left my job and started my own wellness company called Musou Movement. I put everything I had into the company and built it the same time my son was born. It was a huge risk, and there was no option for failure. Taking care of my family and building (physically and metaphorically) a brand new business required an incredible amount of focus, drive, and confidence.
One year later, we are opened, and not just growing, but thriving. Everyday I get to see my son smile and laugh while he’s playing on our Martial Arts mats, and using the movement studio as his playground. Life is a whole lot easier when it’s not just about you.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I recently launched my own Movement and Wellness company, Musou Movement, with a brick and mortar studio in Greenville, South Carolina. The Musou program teaches multiple different movement practices such as Martial Arts Striking, Functional and Primal Movements, Acrobatics, and Breathwork. For recovery and prevention, we teach the benefits of hot and cold therapy, offering saunas and cold plunges to all in studio members. We also offer online memberships, with weekly instructionals for all movement classes, on our Musou Movement app.
Before Musou Movement, I was a full time filmmaker, specializing in action comedy content. I am still involved with certain projects today, but now, I have the ability to pick and choose. After the birth of my son, I decided to shift my focus from entertainment, to the health and wellness space. This new chapter in my life is more aligned with my spiritual energy, growth, and outlook on the existential meaning of life.
I teach people how to have a stronger mind, body, and life through Movement.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Passion is the most important foundation in a successful business, and life. With passion comes hard work, curiosity, and playfulness. I think this is one of the most underrated beliefs in our world today.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Authenticity, experience, and passion. When people walk into my studio, they can immediately feel the energy. It’s a playground for discovery, not just in skill, but within yourself. This is a community where everyone respects not only each other, but themselves as well. Take responsibility of your life, and who you are. How you are and the energy that you give off effects the community around you.
