We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sean Ringer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
The first thing I would change is implementing more vocational trade resources. They use to be a big thing back then now they’re nonexistent. I went to Jones Technical Institute to acquire my associates degree and while in high school the only class I can think of that was a trade was wood shop. There’s more than wood shop and mechanics though such as plumbers and electricians are just as essential. I believe the education system is failing students in this aspect because college isn’t for everyone and working a trade is an honest living
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the diesel industry through a two year program at Jones Technical Institute. There are alternatives such as FSCJ that provides a diesel mechanic program as well. I provide quite a few services ranging for simple repairs like brakes to more labor intensive engine work. The biggest thing that sets me apart is how hard of a worker I am and the efficiency to have repairs done under industry standards. I’m proud of all the hard working fathers out there providing for there families. I have two beautiful children who I’m proud to be father as well.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m currently going through a pivot in my career. I want to enter the tech space. My goal is to become a data engineer, the first step to reach that is an data analyst. I’m using my free time effectively using Udemy courses and watching YouTube educating myself on all the important material,
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I believe the best way to market yourself is having a network. You can’t be afraid to talk to anyone because who knows how that person may be able to help. Always be open to new opportunities and optimistic on the potential value someone can add.
