We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sean M. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sean , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Yes, I’m happier being a creative. It gives me the opportunity to be myself and create a space for people who are voiceless due having fears or not knowing what they want to do. Being a creative can sometimes be very challenging because now a days people just go viral just by talking. Not having meaningful conversations that can make a difference in somebody life, it’s like the same conversations over and over. Relationships, toxic memes, and trends gets our culture going but we need to change the trajectory of these conversations. Most nights I question myself am I doing enough or what am I lacking because at times I’ve compared my journey to somebody who seems lit on Instagram. Even though comparing your lifestyle to somebody else can be the biggest thief of joy.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
The most thing I’m proud about is creating my own brand called, “Outside These Walls,” it’s a conversation that talks about life after college and the various hardships you’ll face while chasing your dreams and aspirations. Most of time when we are in college we do not think about life after college until we graduate from our institution. This platform speaks on thee importance of starting early from internships, creating and maintaining relationships, and telling your story. When we are in college we talk about relationships, boy and girl code, and we do not focus on the next steps of life in a young person’s life until they go through significant challenges. It’s imperative we have these candid conversations that matters because it can help set somebody up.
I’ve interviewed Award-Winning Journalist, Publicist, Entertainers, Meteorologist, and many others in different industries. I try to have every major be apart of my show because it’s important to shed light on different careers as well. Everybody has a story, a lot of time we forget who helped us along the way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Hearing people personal testimony when it comes down to their journey. It’s not easy being consistent, remaining humble when you know people are sleeping on you. The amount of love and support I got from this platform is huge. It was an idea when I first created it in my head and now it’s a digital talk series. Connecting you with the hottest people in the game no matter what industry you are apart of I got you with people who you need to talk to.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I would love to bring this brand/platform to a television station and help undergraduates navigate through college early. Instead of waiting their junior year to start being active in their career. Experience is the biggest teacher out here and if you do not have extensive amount of experience then you’re not qualify. Telling them the importance of starting early and having a great foundation behind it as well. I want this platform to help HBCU students because we are at a disadvantage when it comes down to resources and educational pieces. That’s one of my biggest goal with this brand.
