We recently connected with Sean James and have shared our conversation below.
Sean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I began my professional career in New York City politics and government, serving as the Special Assistant to the former Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams (current Mayor of New York City). After the successful 2017 re-election campaign of Borough President Adams, I felt a tug on my faith to step away from my beloved work in the public sector to found the VSNWKS. PR Firm. I wanted to make an impact on the human condition in a real way through VSNWKS. Hence today we consider ourselves a human company and that simply means we celebrate and embrace differences as we are ever learning and iterating new pathways for inclusivity and collaboration across all departments, Industries, stakeholders and even the globe. We believe that Inequity can not exist when we carry the great vision, ideas and solutions for our diverse-world to come. Our internal values have largely influenced our vision and the way we drive our business and the nature of the relationships we have developed with our clients.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Any advice for managing a team?
Growing and Managing the VSNWKS. team has probably been one the most rewarding and inspiring experiences I have had in business. Over the last six years I have had several different teams and have worked some of the most amazing industry professionals. I approach building our morale from team prospective, no big “I” or little “u”, we are all equally important, valuable and celebrated at VSNWKS. All of the success we have experienced over the last six years has been a team effort from both members past and present.
I can recall most recently we implemented our daily morning huddles, which are strictly focused around victories, challenges and priorities. I consistently encourage the team quantify and recognize their daily victories. I believe every team member should know and be able to share the value they bring to the table everyday. No one can ever rob them of their value. They must own it and celebrate it.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When COVID-19 hit in early March 2020 our business began to lose many of our special event projects and contracts as events around the world began to be postponed and ultimately canceled. At least half of our revenue in previous years was based on the special events we assisted our clients in producing such as conferences, conventions, galas etc. It has been more than challenging two years later to get back to where we were prior to 2020 or better. No sad stories here, we have continued to forge forward and have found new ways to give back to fellow entrepreneurs and business owners. We have written a few e-books to assist business owners with their business foundation, marketing and PR. As we have interacted with brands we have experienced several businesses that are missing the foundation of business such a circle of trusted advisors (consultant, attorney, accountant, and public relations specialist). Having this foundation is essential to the longevity and success of a business. A business with the basics creates a sturdy foundation that will allow the businesses to withstand the roller coaster of business. We have also offered a free business over breakfast networking event that allowed the community to come have breakfast while meeting industry professionals to learn more about various aspects of business and entrepreneurship. We also started a similar program to reach a younger audience evenings with snacks and wine and a DJ. Both programs have been widely popular in the South Atlanta community, so much so that we have had a waiting list of attendees.
