We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sean Hyman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sean below.
Alright, Sean thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
While the stock market newsletter industry already existed, I wanted to create a unique letter that wasn’t pulling upon people’s greed to “find the next Microsoft” or to sell them a great story about a stock, whether it flops or soars. In other words, many newsletters play upon the greed-factor within people and they focus on “selling sexy stories” more so than getting the best, consistent returns over time.
The newsletter also attracts a lot of pastors, associate pastors, worship leaders, etc. and many other Christians because I’ll also sometimes include biblical principles to show why we’re doing what we’re doing and why we take the approach to stock market investing that we do.
In the industry, they’ll tell you that it will never work, the way I’m doing it. But I’ve got a lot of years in doing it with some subscribers being with me for 10-15 years now. So, it does work and there is a market for what I do, They just couldn’t see it at the time and I believe God led me into it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up poor and knew I needed to learn something about how money worked, if I was ever going to get out of poverty. So, I started studying everything I could find on the stock market and later on, I got the opportunity to work for Charles Schwab where I had some very tenured mentors to learn from, like AJ Monte, John Mendelson, etc. These guys taught me a ton!
Then, I feasted on books from or about Warren Buffett and how he invested, because his approach made so much sense to me. And I also read after Sir John Templeton who was big on taking advantage of negative/extreme sentiment in the stock market.
This led to my approach in investing where I first scan the fundamentals of a company to make sure it’s financially sound and fundamentally cheap (like I learned from Buffett). Once those boxes are checked, I move on to “when” to get into the investment through technical analysis/charting and sentiment analysis, all of which I learned from the others above. All combined, these give me a HUGE edge in the stock market that my subscribers enjoy. (Our current win rate % is well above 90%. So, we’re winning in over 9 of 10 investments right now).
So, an individual can have ZERO stock market experience or hit-or-miss results on their own and they can join my investing service at www.logicalinvestor. net where I give the buy/sell recommendations and they can just follow when/where I say to get in and get out of the stocks. Of course, they’ll know all of the “whys” as to why I like the stock and why specifically that I like it at the time of the recommendation.
We tend to hold our stocks for 2-4 years on average, so this is true investing…not day trading, etc. So, you don’t have to be glued to a screen. You can work a day-job and follow my recommendations.
In addition to my stock investing service, I also have a stock trading service and an options trading service at logicalinvestor.net as well.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Yes, early on in my stock market investing, I had to learn that you can’t take too seriously the analyst buy/sell recommendations and upgrades/downgrades that you see on financial TV.
And if there’s a lot of positive press on a stock, then its very likely overvalued and if its been pummeled for a while and the financial media has been negative on it for a while AND the company is fundamentally sound and cheap, then it’s undervalued and a good buying opportunity, even though few see it at the time.
So, successful investing requires having contrarian thinking to that of the masses and to that of the media. It means, one has to get confident in their opinions without having any confirmations or atta-boys from others when you’re doing it. After all, if “everyone” sees the opportunity, then it’s not really still an opportunity.
Therefore, one has to develop strong, independent thinking based on solid analysis, using measurable metrics (no gut feelings) via fundamentals, technicals and sentiment analysis.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes, to get my start in the industry, I started writing for FREE, ha-ha. I had some relatives that thought I was crazy for doing work for free. But after I did that, then I had published material out there that I could reference.
Then my second job was filling a financial website with a ton of content, all for a whopping $200-$250 (I forgot the exact amount). People thought I was crazy again, because I made so much at my “day job” and then I was spending a ton of hours, working for peanuts to put something on someone else’s site.
But I knew that the Bible says, “Faith without works is dead”. So, I had to give God something to work with. I had to put my hand to something, in the direction that I wanted to go, in order to give Him something to bless.
Well, in the coming years, I was working full-time for financial publishers, making the most money I’d ever made in my life (by far). But if I hadn’t been willing to start small (very small), then I’d never have gotten to what I experience today. (The Bible talks about not despising the days of small beginnings.)
Today, I run my own site, working for myself and my subscriber base. And I love it! But I had to be willing to start small and initially work for free, then for peanuts, to get to where I am today, flourishing greatly.
